PMDG MD-11 engine shutdown in cruise?

Featured Replies

Hello,I'm a bit new with the PMDG MD-11 and I have this wierd problem: In cruise, at a random time, my engines (all of them at the same time) shut down. The wierd thing is that then all I do is restart them without any problems like I would on the ground and after that, for the rest of the flight, they run fine! This happens every flight, only once, and seems unavoidable. I check my fuel and there is enough, but it still happens! Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!Karan Kant

Not a lot to go on there ... FS9 or FSX ? On your next flight can you please post screenshots of your 2d main and overhead panels after you have reached cruise level, and we'll see what comes to mind.CheersGary

Perhaps there's a keystroke conflict. Maybe you're moving the fuel cutoff levers inadvertently?Paul

FSX. The fuel cutoff levers are all on run, all of the systems are on auto. I might seem to have 1 reason it might happen because I didn't switch on anti-ice in any of those flights. I highly doubt that's the reason but I'll see and post my results here. This is happening on EVERY flight, usually in the first half of it and always during cruise.

Check your fuel temperatures when the engines shut down, could be frozen fuel, would have a warning come up first saying FUEL TEMP LOPaul

I have had this a couple of times to. Not every flight though. (FSX btw) I dont know what the problem was. I dont use a joystick for my throttles. I also did not have anti ice on at the time. But every time I have switched that on it just said 'No ice detected' So yeh. Weird!EDIT: it did not say anything about FUEL TEMP when it happened.

Yeah...that's what's happening to me now. Fuel temperatures seem fine, actually everything seems fine! The wierd thing is that after that, I can restart the engines with IGN A like I normally do without a hitch and it doesn't happen again for the rest of the flight.. I have all the systems at auto, and I don't know the plane back to front, so I might be missing something I'm supposed to do manually. All I do at the ground is start from a Cold & Dark cockpit, turn on external power and APU, program FMC, change cabin pressure system to auto, turn on AUX HYD 1 for a bit, turn on engines, set for takeoff and that's it! So, I won't be surprised if I have missed something :)

Only time I've seen something similar is when people are using extremely high rates of time acceleration. Anyone using that by chance?

ahhhh...that just might be the problem. I go to 8 times and I know that that's the extreme limit for the PMDG MD-11. I will now see if that happens only in that circumstance. I usually am in time acceleration mode, so I see that as a problem :).edit: Yep, that's the problem. The moment I went to 8x speed, just 1 second after that, all 3 engines shut down at the same time. Thanks all for your help :)
