PMDG Was Working Fine, Now I Get An Error Message
Aah, the joys of searching before asking, and actually finding the answer ! Thank you Boris, I'd just run ccleaner too and the first service I checked (Flexnet) was disabled - so I enabled and started it, restarted FSX, selected the NGX, no error, job done. GameConsoleService isn't even on my list as disabled, it simply doesn't exist here - so I don't that's the culprit Many thanks !

PMDG website glitch
When I load the website I get the PMDG logo top left then under that is the blue menu bar (home / products / shop etc). When I'm in the 'shop' part of the website (it starts with the "browse by category" screen) the 777 has disappeared from the Products dropdown menu. It's present in the products dropdown when I'm on any other part of the website, just not in the shop. Which is where I particularly wanted to find it :-) I've made this happen on 3 browsers on two computers so as far as I'm concerned it's a glitch

Big planes, little routes, yes you can.
Absolutely. I'd never have been able to take a 767 into runway 33 at CGCY with a reality based VA but it was a blast in Level D's just because I could, then it was a doddle in the NGX with all the HUD wizardry just because I wanted to, and I don't know whether I'm looking forward to trying it more in the T7 or the DC-6 !

Depends on the VA. The ones that model themselves on real world airlines certainly, but there are VAs and flying clubs around that will let you fly what you want where you want. It's supposed to be fun, if it wasn't nobody would do it

BOEING/MCDONNELL DOUGLAS
Or the expansion packs for the NGX. Or (as if we could forget it!) the Wood Pigeon.

Good news for people without all day to sim the long haul routes who want to fly the 777 on 'unrealistic' short haul routes. Here are a couple of great real world excuses for using big planes (these were for the A380) on short to very short haul routes. BA will initially be flying their new A380's on short haul European routes to maximise cabin crew and pilot training opportunities, by using the planes this way their A380 crews can fly up to 4 sectors a day. Even better, when Air France were introducing their A380 fleet they flew them between Paris and London (just over 200 miles apart) partly for crew training and partly to not have the planes sitting around between long haul flights. If it's good enough for an A380 it's good enough for a T7 (source : http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/bas-first-a380s-to-ply-short-haul-routes-to-train-crews-377714/ )

777 autobrake settings "max auto"
Next logical question then ... for short runways, can you select RTO as the autobrake setting for a landing ?

Inverted Flight with 737..For real!
I remember when it happened and there were rumours about the co-pilot turning the wrong knob a bunch of us on another forum all leapt into our PMDG Boeings and tried it to see what would happen :)

Question for real pilots: How chatty are ATCs allowed to get?
A friend took us night flying in a cessna one evening here in Auckland out of Ardmore NZAR and we decided on the way back to drop into Auckland NZAA - New Zealand's major airport - for a coffee. It was quite late and in a loooong window with nothing happening and we could see the airport off to the right so figured we could just get a visual clearance. Ahh, no. ATC cleared us direct to an intersection then a particular approach. After muttering briefly about smartypants controllers who do this sort of thing just for a laugh our pilot had to reply that we were a VFR flight with no charts and hence no idea where the intersection or the approach were. There was a long pause, then ATC asked if we could see the airport. Yes we said, we could see the airport. There was another long pause then ATC clicked the channel open, gave a deep sigh, and said "just land". :)

Weekend Update 09DEC11: NGX SP1b Updates Available
I recall something in an update which I'm pretty sure was to do with the NGX that rather than go through all that we could not delete anything, copy the variants section of the aircraft.cfg file, then after the update paste back it back into the new aircraft.cfg and that was it, job done in about 30 seconds. That seems an awful lot easier than 'just' reinstalling all the liveries every update, would it still work (if, obviously, we say no to deleting anything...) ?ThanksGary

Maximum simulation rate for NGX
I remember in the manuals for one of my FS9 PMDG planes there was a maximum recommended simulation rate (possibly 8x, might even have been 4x). Is there a similar recommended limit for the NGX ? I fly in real time but have been doing some tests where I've wanted to speed things up until I got to the bit of the flight where I was expecting trouble. I've searched here and in the manuals but they're common words and it didn't turn up anything useful. ThanksGary

What is this?
If I had to guess I'd say it was a map light on a flexible arm ?

NGX Tutorial
One of my cockpit videos is on a Virgin (?) 747 out of London, they seemed to be kept down low for an awfully long time there, so yes it does really happen. Probably not all the time, but sometimes.

Weather radar - no, not that question :-)
I was trying to find the definitive answer on why we can't have a weather radar. I understand the gist of it but not the details and I'd like to hear the official word. Searching turned up pages and pages and pages of threads that are essentially "Can we have a weather radar" / "no, PMDG have said why not, search the forum". So I searched ... All the way back to 2004 ... And I couldn't find it. So where is it ? Is there an actual message by an actual PMDG staffer that says why we can't have weather radar ? Can somebody give me a link to it ? I give the moderators permission to delete any replies that say "I want one too" or "PMDG have said why not, search the forum" Gary

Where do I look for the empty weight of an NGX ?
QRH 452 pagesFCOM1 1035 pagesFCOM2 1240 pagesFCTM 416 pages That's 3143 pages of manuals, not counting the introduction and tutorial, and do you think I can find the empty weights of the variants anywhere ? I've tried searching for "weight" across all pdf's in the folder but got about two and a half thousand hits, then I tried searching for "empty weight" and got pointed at the guide for the EFB which may give me the info I'm after when I figure out how to turn it on but isn't there just an ordinary list of weights somewhere ?
