how to disable the md11 high/low speed protection

Featured Replies

how can i disable the md11 high and low speed protection? i turned the LSAS off and the FEDEC also and any other related system but still its turned on somehow. i watched into the PMDG MD11 manual and also in the real manual and well.. the content in this section is almost the same but still i dont get why its not possible to deactivate it.. i also build in some failures of any related system but still it wants me to go back on speed. this is just for some test...ps: its possible to turn off all of the systems via autoflight disconnect but i just want the autothrottle systems completly off

In the real aircraft I imagine you'd just pull the breaker... :( No idea how on the PMDG MD-11.Patrick H

yea exactly there you can shut down everything but normally it should be disabled as soon as i am in alternate fedec mode and lsas disengaged

You have to turn off both AFS switches. No other way apart from pulling breakers. Now, had you been flying a Boeing, life would be much simpler...Paul

jea id like to do that but even if i push the both afs switches located at the thrust levers.. they reengage as soon as i exceed the speed (in both directions) then there are lot of buttons located on the overhead panel.. i pushed them all so they went to "off" and as a little addition i turned the whole fadec on alternate

Are you sure you're moving the right switches? The AFS switches are below the AUTOFLIGHT button. You must turn them both off (amber/yellow bar visible) to disable all protections.Paul

when you turn them both, you also disable the complete autopilot which is not what i want. i want only have manual thrust control

Unfortunately, what you want to do is impossible. It's either all-on or all-off. There are 2 AFS channels, that's why pressing the AUTOFLIGHT button causes the FMA to alternate between AP1 and AP2. Either channel will handle all AFS tasks.Paul

jea i know but in real, it should be possible regarding to the manual :( well in this case i have to think about another way

Where in the manual does it say you can disable the AT and leave the AP engaged?Paul

somewhere around page 25 of MD11 original manual section automatic flight.. there was something about lsas disconnect but still flying with ap. will find it out for you when its daytime again but this still doesnt solve my problem

Can you find a more specific reference? I'm unable to find that information, and my understanding of the MD11 systems is that what you want to do is not possible.Paul

What you are trying to do doesn't make any sense. From the MD-11 SYSTEMS.pdf:FLT.10.11LSAS is off when the autopilot is engaged, or when the airplane is below 100 feet AGL. LSAS is not affected by the AFS OVRD switch on the FCP.

jea i just noticed its not lsas but a system which is similar to it just when ap is on. afs.pngand now someone tell me how to override it

What part of that paragraph suggests you can disable the AT?If you're familiar with Boeings, the MD behaves a lot like a Boeing does with the AT switch in the ARMED position. The difference is that the MD does not have an OFF position; the AT is always ARMED once any AFS is available.Paul
