Anti Aliasing turing on and off

Featured Replies

I've recently re-installed Windows XP and FS9, and have come across a problem I haven't had before. For some reason, anti-aliasing keeps on turning itself on and off. I run in full screen mode, have AA checked in the graphics settings within FS, and have nVidia control panel set to enhance application setting with 16x AA. I don't know if it's happening constantly, as it's really only noticeable near the ground, where runway and taxiway lines and building edges become very 'sharp'. And AA doesn't seem to go fully off, but it is noticeable that lines are no longer smooth. This seems to happen very much at random - I've been unable to narrow it down to anything occurring within FS.Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any ideas how to solve it?

Phil,You did not say what your specs are, and that would help. Unless you have a top of line PC, turn off AA in video card AND FS9. Then use Trilinear filtering instead of AF. Use 'Let Programs Decide' for ALL. Then try it. Take 2 stewardress (out to lunch) and call me in the morning. There may be a better and more concise answer coming (like: your video card is overheating, or on it's last legs). In the mean time give us some details.Chuck BNapamule

Hello,If you have a modern (last model of) Nvidia card and latest drivers .. you can indeed have antialiasing settings problems.. nevertheless you must use AA for a good loocking of graphics (avoiding the "steps effects")I suggest you to use the program Nhancer instead the standard Nvidia console for driver settings.Keep in mind to not activate the antialiasig filter in your sim but use the graphic card setting. For more about Nhancer go to for download:http://www.nhancer.comFor usage and settings for FS2004 (it's a procedure to follow) .. please search this forum with the word NhancerRegards.bye.gifGus.

I have noticed this with ALOT of the latest Nvidia drivers. With the 182.50 I need to go to 16xs and enable Supersampling just to get a decent looking AA result. If AA was truly working that should crush even my FPS... I also run multiple monitors and a lot of the Nvidia drivers lose ALL AA as soon as you switch from windowed to full screen...It is VERY frustrating,-P

Are you having these AA problems even with nhancer? I have the 8800gts and don't ever remembering having an AA problem...granted there is plenty of 'swimming' in straight lines (ie, taxiway lines) but never turns on and off.

Hey Red,I think you described it more accurately than I did... I do use enhancer, have done for years but with the latest releases 18x.x I too get that horrible swimming even at 8xsQ with Supersampling enabled which should not be happening. It is like the AA is just not as effective anymore. Maybe that is how they claim those massive performance gains with the latest driver releases LOL. Just kill some of the AA that will improve performance ;)....The turning on/off turned out to be a duplicate NHancer profile so AA does not turn on/off but really doesn't look like it is working with those wavy lines swimming all over the tarmac.-P

I thought I was crazy when I started to notice those wavy lines at times a few years ago...and now that I think about it, it may have been around the same time I upgraded my computer, so it's possible that these newer generation video cards and drivers don't mix as well with fs9 as they used to. I could have sworn I don't remember those lines being so wavy. The strange part is that for most objects...planes, buildings, clouds, etc...the AA works excellent and I can't see any jagged edges what so ever, yet with simple things like the yellow line on a taxiway, it looks like a long road in the desert with the heat waves. By the way this is on a 8800gts with nhancer and AA settings of combined-8xS.

Hi,My AA turns off by itself occasionally (after using NHancer). What I do is use Alt Enter to switch to the other view mode, and then use it again to come back. Works every time.Hope this helps,
