Saving Flight Plans

Featured Replies

I'm running 747FSX and cannot save any of my flights or any portion of flight. Every time I save a flight segment and subsequently load it, the aircraft is positioned exactly where I initially left (and saved) but all my flight parameters (FMC), speed, altitude, are reset to default values. This should be a no-brainer. Any suggestions?John Butler

I think I got over that by saving the flight then saving the panel state as well. Hope so anyway, long time since I did that.John Ellison

The flight Plan is a company Flight Plan that is already saved. What exactly goes in the Panel State, or better , how is it written?I tried everything and all I get is a error stating "cannot create file!"

So far 91 readers have read my question on Saving Flight Plans, or saving a route. Yet to date , no one has replied to my question with a answer. This tells me that 91 people all have the same problem as I do, they don't have an answer to the question either, that's why no one has replied. With all this technicial talk that is flying around here by the pound in this blog on flying and the mechanics of it, I am quite sure that there is one good soul who is knowleable enough about this topic and can help me with such an insignificant task. I am truly disappointed in this blog and the PMDG 747-400 software.Joh Butler

Sir, I don't have that problem and maybe the other 91 readers do not either. Not having the problem, I have not have had to solve it. Did you try John's suggestion?

Well good for you Sir. Instead of enlightening me with the answer which would be the right and civil thing to do, it appears you want to keep this information all for yourself. My father use to say, "son, there's and &@($* hole born every minute" and he was right. You can stick this blog where it hurts. it appears to be full of I TRIED TO USE A PROFANITY HERE - AREN'T I STUPID!s.

Well I was going to reply in a more detailed form as to how to save the flight and panel state but given the attitude I think I will withdraw the ifnormation and you can find out for yourself with that attitude, good luck.John Ellison

Dear Sir:You had no intention of replying to me in a more detailed form because if you did, you would of given it to me in your first reply. Instead you showed your sarcasm by your snooty reply. All I asked was a simple question to which I received no answer, not from you or the other 91 people who read my question. That says a lot about you and the rest of the people on this blog. I assumed that the other 91 people who did not reply were in the same situation as I. I assume if they knew the simple answer that they would of forwarded the answer to me in a helpful manner, after all that's what this blog is supposedly intended to do, help people fix problems.I expected to get help from people who are more knowledgeable than I regarding these procedures, instead I got no reply and sarcasm. You can call yourself a pilot, a simmer or anything you want, but one thing you can't call yourself is classy. John, take a breath and read your posts. The attitude you're displaying isn't one of Courtesy or with Open ears. you've not Recieved any Sarcasm, just honest answers to your Ranting explaining the things you've ranted about. Show courtesy, and you will be recieve it back *most the time ;)*.Nothing much more to be said,Ryan

Hey John, Dan Downs is one of the most knowledgeable here in the forums and if he hasn't experienced it or seen it, then probably not many of us have. I am sure Dan, as I do myself, peruse the forums reading the topics to see if by chance there's something that we might be able to help with and perhaps learn something new by reading about solutions to potential problems. I haven't experienced your problem because I don't save my flights, yet I was curious to see what your problem was. I hope there is someone reading the forums can help you. Don't lose hope!Remember, while PMDG employees do browse the forums they don't get to every case. The best thing to do if you have a question is to first browse the manual that comes with the airplane, check the wiki section: http://ops.precisionmanuals.com/wiki/PMDG_747-400_FAQ, and then the best bet is to send an email to customer support: [email protected]. They are great and will usually get back to you within 48 hours. Once you send them an email you will get a quick reply notifying that PMDG has received your email. If you do not receive a confirmation email there could be conflicts with browser settings, etc. They really are great and I've always had every problem resolved. While the forums are a great source for help, they are not perfect and there isn't always an answer. Keep digging, don't worry, someone will have the answer for ya!

Quite ok John, we all have moments like that. I looked at my reply as well and realised I didn't add an explanation as to why I gave a short answer. I meant to say it's a long time since I did a flight save and without doing one again for the 747x I couldn't give you a detailed reply.I used the M$ Save Flight and saved as 'Flight' - then did a Panel save from the pmdg menu and saved that to the same name 'Flight' (Be sure to engage ALT HOLD and SPD then Pause the Sim before any saving). On reloading the flight I used Load Flight 'Flight' then allowed the plane to settle using Alt Hold and Spd - check then re-engage LNAV and VNAV.Works for me anyway... most of the time.John Ellison

I found the answer to my dilemma. I took a cold shower and sat down and thought about it. I built my computer last April. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Windows Vista Home Premium isn't like other Windows OS. This one is picky. If you are logged on as System Administrator and you try to install a program that is going to change your windows configuration in any way, the User Account Control protection window pops up as ask you if you want to allow these changes. As administrator you just click allow. The program installs and everything goes well. Vista Home Premium won't let you make any changes to the PC if you are not logged on as administrator period. It won't give you any pop up window either. This program does what it was designed to do. keeping people from making changes to your pc. When I tried to save a flight plan with FSBUILD, FSBUILD said the flight plan was generated and put into the correct folder. But when I look in the folder it wasn't there. That got me thinking. A light bulb went off in my head. I went into the User Accounts and unchecked the protection box shut down the PC and restarted it and tried to generate another flight plan. Wala. There it was. Then I got to wondering if this was the cause why I couldn't save a flight in PMDG. So I did the same thing. I left the User Accounts Box unchecked set up flight simulator for a flight installed my new flight plan, flew for a while then paused the screen and saved the flight. I then shut down FSX and restarted it and loaded the flight I just saved, and Wala there it was in all its glory. I believe the reason why nobody had this particular problem is because they are not running Vista Home Premium 64 bit, I may be wrong but this is my assumption. Anyway you might want to pass this information along to whomever designs PMDG and anybody else who has problems saving flights who is running Vista Home premium. Enough said. Thanks for the help.
