Quad cores do work. I have evidence

Featured Replies

Just a note to share my experience. Core machine:Asus p5b deluxe moboXP4 gigs ram (I know, more than three...)Old video card NV GTX 8800, current GTX 280Fast drives (Striped SATA)Scenario...Take off from Keesler AFB, MS head due south, then whenover the water 5 miles or so turn WSW. This takes you out over water but also many island land masses. A good test of both water and land.My wx was clear but cloudy day, warm, nice. (that was the real wx today). All sliders basically maxed except car and boat traffic. AI mid to high. Here is what convinced me. After having dual, then quad (same time the final sp was released) I saw benefit in quad (6600). Then I read speed is more, quad is less so I bought a 2.83 GHZ dual. I wanted to believe things were improved, but the stutters and blurries made me question the wisdom of my upgrade.Fast fwd to now. I've installed a new quad 9550, and I added the gtx 280 about 9 months ago.Summation: Today I flew that course with water on 2high (after reading a post on Avsim about high v max). I have never used anything above 1 high much before, even with my other components, because it was not satisfying. Stutters, blurries, long load for scenery, etcToday it was liquid smooth, partly cloudy clouds reflecting off the water and flying through them all and was locked at 30 and it remained at 30 without variation over .5 or so.This has never been my experience with FSX. The only thing that has changed that was the final quad. If you look at it from an evolutionary pov, it is clear that the quad gives an evolutionary advantage. If you are torn between speed and quad, go quad for best bang for buck. At least with FSXMy opinion,Braun

how would you rate the i7 920 against your test? non OC'ed and OC'ed to about 3.2GHz

FAA: ATP-ME, 737 CA, enough time in the 757/767 to be dangerous 🤠

No idea...perhaps someone else can reflect on that topic.Braun

howdy...all clk speeds are stock. I'm not anti-ovr'clock, just not motivated at the time to try.Cheers,Braun

You won't get any significant performance increase in FSX unless you overclock your CPU and memory to at least 3.8 GHZ. FSX is very dependent on CPU power overall. :(

im getting a comp with the i7 920 in a couple of weeks and i plan on over clocking it to around 3.2-3.6GHz. This wont give me any significant performance increase? Im going to FSX for the first time. Also what kind of OC could i get with the stock heatsink?.....if you know lol thanks in advance
