ATC Runway selection !?

Featured Replies

Is there any way of being able to select your runway to land at / takeoff from when using ATC (other than ignoring the instruction !!) ??I know that you can select a different approach - but that just tells me to "Circle to land" at the original runway, bit of a problem when you get assigned runway 26 water at Juneau if you don't have floats (don't even think they are an option on a Citation). Being assigned landing at runway 33 at Aspen is also not ideal !!Any suggestions would be appreciated .. .. ..G

I know it's a bit of a fudge, but when I want to approach a predetermined runway I set the wind to something like runway heading. If there are multiple runways then I don't call ATC until I'm on the side of the airport I want to approach. It works!

Open all the runways so they are active. Now you can ask ATC for the approach and for the runway so ATC does not require a circle to land.

One of the nice things about Radar Contact is that you can pick the runways you want to take off from and land at. Whether the AI share your interests is another matter! As the previous poster said, though, you can go into weather settings and pick your weather station, i.e. the airport(s) in question and set your wind speed and direction. This will force ATC / AI to at least choose runways into the wind. Choose current weather from the Free Flight initial screen, click the third radio button: "A specific weather station," then dial in the direction of the runway you want to use, with some wind. So if you want to take off from Runway 27, set the arrow at 270 to make the wind come from the west. You can do that at your arrival airport, too.I like to use charts, but I don't want to pre-print a whole bunch of them ahead of time when I'm only going to use one SID and one STAR & runway approach. So I cheat. Eventually, I create a collection for favorite airports, though.

Sounds like that would do the job nicely - take it that there is a utility to do that ?!?!G
