Blurriness of embedded groundtextures

Featured Replies

Is there a way to improve the quality of (commercial) add-on scenery, in particular the aerial photoscenery that comes from bgl files which have embedded groudtextures. In my case these groundtextures always appear blurry, except when i look straight down. But from a distance it's awfull, and i tend to remove these bgl's or scenery folders that contain them. I prefer the default groundtextures because of this. These are always sharp. Maybe there is a cure that i'm not aware of, any help is gratefully appreciated.Gerrit

Can you alter the BGL files in any way? No. But I'd make sure the distance radius in the settings are as high up as your system will allow. That might help.

Hi, which sceneries are you talking about ? Purely photoscenery? If so, there are many things you can do. A lot depends on good hardware and set up, but you can optimize. We will need some more details to start helping you out, such as your full system specs and the sceneries you run. cheers, Mark

Here's some examples from Aerosofts island of Madeira. The blurriness already starts from the red line. At some distance it gets worse. I've tried all possible settings in the scenery tab with only the LOD distance maxed seeming to improve it a little. I added the TBM=80 and poolsize tweak to the cfg file. Which was a good exersize, no better picture but some extra fps. Some hardware specs: Duo6850 CPU, ATI3870, 4G DDR2In the past i had some of Franks Italian Alps scenery installed, which i removed quickly because of the blurriness. He also uses embedded textures if i remember well. But look at his screenshot, what a difference!http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wmiR3cpyEXw/So7z.../s1600-h/v2.jpgregards, GerritBlurrymadeira.jpgBlurrymadeira2.jpg

GerritLooks like you have simple clouds turned on. If that is the case, and your system can not handle detailed clouds, then it may not handle photoscenery either. Make sure your LOD is turned all the way up and also Globle Texture Resolution.BTW I build guitars, steel string not classical.Bob

i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.

What do you have your texture res set at? Try this combo and see if it helps.Level of Detail Radius = Large (MAX)MEsh Complexity = 100 (MAX)Mesh Res = 10mTexture Res = 7cm

Thanks guys for the help. The Lod radius maxed and TBM tweak seems to have improved it a little, though it still isn't like on Frank's screenshots. For now i'm happy with it. On another occasion i'll maybe have to tweak bios, or invest in a quad core to get higher quality. Hey Bob, that's really nice that you build em, the steel strings. Always dreamed to build one of my own, something luckily never started for real as i miss everything it takes to do that well.Gerrit
