J41 Engine Start for dummies

Featured Replies

Hi Great aircraft. Only one problem. I still cant start the engines without some hickup. I must be an idiot. Have read manual, tutorial, video etc.Someone please help me. Explain it to me very simple!! :(

Batteries on, avionics off, fuel boost pumps on, select right engine, press start, rinse and repeat for #1 donkey, Make sure the engines are unfeathered visually before trying to start them, Otherwise use the unfeather pump on the center console to unfeather each engine first. FRED

And MAKE SURE the stop locks are engaged first! :(

I thouht that doing as the previous poster said was correct:

Unfeathering the props would enage the start locks (not the "stop locks").

He edited his post to add that after I posted :-)Stop / start / stop / start / stop.. where was I again?

It starts/stops itself, it's the start locks that are a problem at shutdown. If the props are feathered when you want to start, pull the throttle to reverse, run the unfeather pump, then when it is unfeathered, set the throttle to idle. The props are now in the start locks and you're ready for start.Usually both engines are feathered when I start the sim, so I switch on the batts, connect the GPU, configure for pre-start, then set both throttles to reverse, and run the unfeather pumps. I select the right hand engine first, then the left immediately afterwards. When I see the left engine has finished unfeathering, I set both throttles to idle. I know #2 is in its locks (not quite as per RL but works in the sim, limitations considered). After that, as per the checklists again.Best regards,Robin.

Thanks. That really helped. I manage to start with no problem. Fly and land the aircraft with a FMS flightplan. This aircraft is brilliant. :(
