October 4, 200916 yr Corel/Metafractal Painter is totally the best with a stylus! The ability to dynamically turn the canvas so that you can emulate proper brush strokes using good wrist technique and fingering is worth the price of admission right there. And the paint mixing options are light years ahead of Photoshop, in my opinion. However, it's no great shakes dealing with photographic material. Photoshop is for photos, Painter is for painting. You can use either for both, but the get the best performance, you need both for either. Bring on Farm Simulator. If AVSIM gets a copy, I would gladly Review it. Peter, my family is a farm family. We don't farm to make money, we farm to get rid of it. My uncle won the lottery jackpot a few years back. The press asked him what he was going to do with all of the cash. "Oh, I reckon I'll just keep farming until it's all gone."Recently, he retired, though. He used his RRSP funds to buy a small hardware store in town. He found a fellow who sells hammers at $10 per unit. He bought the entire shipment, but insisted on paying the salesman $100 per hammer. Then he sold the hammers in his shop to all of the nearby farmers for $5 apiece. Each sale, he would hit himself on the head with the hammer before giving it to the customer."Why are you buying your stock at inflated prices, undercharging your customers, and hitting yourself on the head, uncle?" says I."Oh, I miss my old life, " says my uncle, "Selling hammers like this feels exactly like farming, the money goes the same way, but now that I am retired, this is sure a helluva lot easier."Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM
October 4, 200916 yr Thanks Jeff, funny, but to the point. I live in farm country also and know that when all the farmers are gone, others will have to figure out how to eat without buying food at the store........... they will starve to death no doubt.ANYthing that can get younger people to be interested in farming as a way of life is a huge help.

Only reason I don't fly real aircraft myself is a lack of money to do so, otherwise I wouldn't be worrying so much about simulations. Personally I have a "Just do it IRL" philosophy. You are infinitely more useful doing it in reality than in a simulator, I just use sims because I cant do it IRL.The only exception to my philosophy is the kind of stuff you do in GTA, just keep that to the vid games everyone, last thing we need is to prove Jack Thompson right! October 5, 200916 yr agreed to all points made from both of you, however I still think the better option is to just get off your butt and actually farmWell, except that we need the younger generations to prepare for, then go into farming in order to keep the food flowing to the masses, I would never think anyone that is already in a good (for them) profession would switch from making money to working harder for less money as a farmer does. Even children of farmers are going other directions after watching their parents work so hard for so little profit. Can't hurt for them to see and hear that farming is a respected and much needed profession everywhere they look. Then, even if they don't see the importance of being a farmer, they need to see that it pays as well as other needed professions. Look at all the people we allow to make billions of dollars off us that supply things we really don't even need to start with, why can't our farmers live without money worries? As far as growning our own food, I currently support farmers/growers by buying from them for the bulk of our needs, but when things get to that point, I have the property and knowledge to grow all we need to live and just need to expand our garden and canning areas to handle the year 'round quantity. And...... I'll be glad that I don't have to raise more than what two people need to live on as it's hard work and takes much of your time.
October 6, 200916 yr Farming these days isn't so much a family enterprise as it is a business. Most North American farming is done either by conglomerated "super farms", or as a franchise of some big business. These days, it would not pay to get into farming without degrees in ag. eng. or ag. econ., or both. On the far end of that spectrum, if you ever get your geek on and have the opportunity, I suggest checking out "Agricola" (latin for "Farmer"), which is a board game that simulates life on a 14th century peasant farm in Europe. Yes, OBVIOUSLY, it sounds like a dud in writing, but the game is intense, very thematic, and a whole lot of fun for 1 to 5 smart gamers. Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM
