FS 2004 Scenery Library Numbers

Featured Replies

I just read a post where someone was explaining the Scenery Library's numbering system in Fs2004 and stated the following: "The number is the scenery priority as shown in the scenery library (bigger number = higher priority"I always thought that in the numbering system of the scenery library that the LOWER the number the HIGHER the priority; e.g. scenery #2 has a HIGHER priority that scenery #6. Have I been wrong all of these years? Being right or wrong does NOT mean anything to me. I just want to know what is correct. example: I thought that the entry, "Alaska Glaicer Bay Scenery", #2 had a HIGHER priority than "Misty Fjords Scenery", #6 which would mean that the BIGGER the number, the LOWER the priority. Thanks, jerrycwo4

I have never read any official statement what's right, but through various tests, I can 100% be sure that the lower the number (higher position in the list) is what has more priority (as you thought too). That is also why AES must be at the top of the list, to use its own gate systems and not the ones from various airports.

The confusion may be between the priority numbers one see on the Scenery Library while in Flight Simulator and the numbers attached to each scenery item area as seen in the scenery.cfg file. In the FS library, the lower the number the higher the priority. The scenery area numbers indicating each scenery are arranged in the reversed order within the scenery.cfg file. I would venture to say that what really matters is what you see in the FS scenery library. Dave Vega

Actually it is the layer=n line that dictates scenery priority not the [Area.nnn] line. And yes, the smaller the layer=n line the lower the priority. So if you have 100 Areas, the entry with layer=100 will have highest priority, not the entry with layer=1.

Dave, I agree, 100%. That way you have a visual representation of priority, the top dog sits on top of the pile.regards,Joe
