Monitor advice needed - LED backlighting?

Featured Replies

I looking at monitors right now and I am going to go with a 23"-24" widescreen. It will be my only monitor for FS.Samsungs get good reviews but the fastest response time any of them have is 5ms where LG and Asus have some 2ms.The Samsung XL2370 that I believe is being released in October is getting great reviews and it has LED back-lighting. My understating about the type of back-lighting is that it is around the edge of the screen. I have read that this can cause darker spots near the center of the monitor (I have read this about tv's - assuming it applies to monitors as well). In addition, the colors can be overly cold. BTW, I usually fly in the darkIn short, I have three questions. Can someone recommend a nice monitor for under $300?Is it worth waiting for the Samsung and paying a little more for it?What is the deal with response time? I was told that I had to have less than 5ms for gaming. I know the requirements for Crysis and FSX are different - I want to have a great experience in both environments. It is really hard to find hardware reviews from the FS enthusiast point of view. IMHO, the monitor is very important you can have a great GPU but it won't do any good if the monitor sucks. Running two 19"CRT's at the moment, I'm a little hesitant to jump in to the LCD/widescreen world. I am hoping someone here can help. Thanks,

I ended up getting an LG 23" - I think it is a 2361v (2ms rs). I am thrilled with it so far. It is a big step forward from my 19" CRTs.I bought it from Best Buy because their return policy is great - 30 days, money back, no questions asked. I figured I couldnt go wrong and I was right.

duckbilled,I am putting together a new system and now thinking of a monitor. I saw your post and was wondering what the resolution is of the monitor you bought? I went to BB the other night and was looking at their selection. Though I am a fan of Samsung, the LG, HP and even Hanspree seemed to have a better picture. Appreciate any comments?Chuck B.
