October 5, 200916 yr I'm considering at building an i7 920 based new system and looking at the video benchmarks for GTX275 and GTX285 I'm wondering if, for FSX a GTX285 would be worth the extra expense.Seems to me you get marginally 10% less video ram (896MB vs 1024MB), and 10% less score in regular benchmarks for a lot less cash.Given that FSX is more CPU bound than GPU maybe that 10% difference would be academic...I see plenty of people waxing lyrical about the 285 as it's been around a few months, so has anyone bought the 275 yet?On paper it looks like a no-brainer, but... any comments? :( ThanksDavid

But..........If you look for more 275OC'd vs 285 articles it seems as though your conclusion is correct that you spend a lot less money and you can get virtually the same performance with a little overclock on the card. I would have bought this card but it wasn't available when I built my corei7 box last december. The number of core processors is the same between the two cards. The core clock speed and memory clocks are very close. When I looked at upgrading to a 285 I ran across the specs for the 275 and I had the same questions you did. TomsHardware seems to agree on the value proposition:http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforc...75,2266-15.html Scott KGPI
October 6, 200916 yr Keep in mind the GTX 275 has a ROP partition and memory channel disabled (compared to the 285) so even at the same core and memory clocks it is slightly slower. Good value for the money though, at least for FSX. Of course for other games there's really no competition for ATi's HD 5000 series.
October 7, 200916 yr I just built a new Core i5 rig and went with the MSI GTX275 OC Twinfrozr and am very happy with the performance in FS9 (don't have FSX, yet). Moving from a slideshow on my old P4 with GeForce 6800GT OC up to this rig is getting me 40-50 FPS at the gate with add-on scenery to over 100FPS in the air. FS9 Nirvana!
October 7, 200916 yr Regardless of which. If you aim at going for an OC on your new GPU I can recommend fitting the card with another cooler than the stock cooler supplied to make sure you don "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
