March 4, 201016 yr Hi everybody! I have got the same problem: Random freezes with FSX.I have read the whole thread, and I think that I can throw in some more infos for you guys:1) Windows 7 64 bit2) Graphics: ATI 5850 (So, this problem also occurrs on ATI graphics cards)3) Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 9553) I tried to run FSX under diagnostic mode (meaning starting up the computer only with the basic services). In particular, The sound was deactivated. I am using my onboard sound device - realtek. So I wonder, if buying another sound device would really solve the problem.4) I am using REX2, and it seems as if the weather engine leads to a faster occurrence of the freeze. Once, it happened exactly while REX was updating the weather.5) I don't think that the freezes are connected to game controllers like pedals, because I did some test flights with autopilot on while my rudders and my yoke were disconnected.6) I have fixed the problems with UIAutomationCore.dll by copying a version for Vista in my flight directory. (Crashs while using the ingame FSX menues)My system is pretty fresh and I have had the problem practically from the installation of FSX (SP1, SP2, Global Scenery, UTX Europe, GEX Europe, SceneryTech Europe) on.Are there any more feedbacks, if some of your countermeasures worked out?ChrisWell, comparing your system to mine seems to indicate that the only thing we have in common is Win 7, which kind of confirms what I initially suspected since FSX worked fine when I was running Vista 64 Ultimate on this same hardware. Something with Windows 7 on some machines does not like FSX.What doesn't appear to be an issue so far under Windows 7:- We've had a couple of different Intel CPU's and now your AMD seems to indicate that CPU's are not the culprit.- I'm running an Nvidia card and your ATI was having issues - probably not a video card issue.Previously, I had not tried using the drop-down menus in game. Mine would just freeze up intermittently (usually within the first 30 minutes of flying), leaving the sound running but the FSX application 'not responding'. Reading what you wrote, I wouldn't be suprised if there aren't a few problems between FSX and Windows 7. I have had only one freeze in the past week since upgrading to the Sound Blaster audio card, and if you've solved your problem with the UIAutomationCore fix.... well it seems that there are several problems with different fixes. If mine crashes again I'll try the UIAutomationCore fix and see if that resolves it, but since upgrading to the SoundBlaster card, so far so good (well, minus one crash, but it's still much better than it was with the motherboard's sound enabled).Good Flying,Eric

Something I did notice was that the Logitech G15 keyboard volume controls stopped working until I did a force quit on FSX. I have the Logitech G15 keyboard and the G9 laser mouse. Also running a Microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick. Anything simular to your system?

March 5, 201016 yr making no claims here, but I have flown 280 hours freeze-flee since selling my Saitek yoke
March 5, 201016 yr Seems to be a really weird problem, when I look at the variety of circuamstances. The fix of UIAutomationCore.dll did NOT solve my inital freeze problem. I stumbled about this problem when I was looking for a solution for my freeze problem. Actually, I never noticed the UIAutomationCore.dll problem before I read about it, but then I could reproduce it by clicking several menu items. But with copying the Vista UIAutomationCore.dll, I solved that problem, at least. But back to the original freeze problem:I agree, that it seems to be connected to Win 7, maybe to the 64bit version precisely. My freeze occurs usually between 1 minute and 2 hours after loading a flight - flying in my Cessna at an altitude of 2.000 to 5.000 feet. So this problem is not alone about hight altitude flights.@deepsea631: I don't have a force feedback joystick and no G15 keyboard. I am using the K350 keyboard and the marathon mouse M705 by Logitech. So, we have only the Logitech in common.@Nexus6: I don't have saitek products. I use flight yoke and pedals by CH products. (Though, as said before, I get the freeze even without connecting them)@abulaafia: I don't use a saitek yokeBTW, when I force quit on FSX while REX is connected, I get the exception HRESULT: 0xC000020D (see the attachment). But I am not sure, if this isn't the result of the freeze at FSX. When REX is not connected, I get no HRESULT.So I sum it up:The freeze occurrs...- on different processors- with different graphics chips- on different altitudes (high and low)- with different keyboards and mouses- with different controllers (or entirely without controllers)- with and without REX or ASA- with different sound devices (though the frequency of the freezes seems to be influenced by it)- with installations on the system partition or on another partition- with FSX SP1 or SP2 (with or without Acceleration), though from the feedback in the internet it seems to me that it doesn't occurr so frequently without SP2.- while flying over dense scenery AND while flying in the nowhere- with or without internet connection And there are times when it happens really quickly, and on other days it takes a while.Seems to be a really nasty problem!!! Not really deterministical! ;)
March 6, 201016 yr well, I said I make no claims. I have no solution then. Only happy its gone for now. :)I also use a Jobscheduler setting with 14 on my i7 975 now. Maybe that is the reason, no the Saitek yoke.I also had it happen on Vista 64, so it's not Win 7 Still unexplained. Best theory so far is some kind of thread collision which is more obvious on 4-core systems

Best theory so far is some kind of thread collision which is more obvious on 4-core systemsI guess it has happened on Vista, but for my situation, this same computer with the exact same hardware ran FSX perfectly under Vista Ultimate 64. Now after upgrading to Win 7 the problems have developed with the freezing in FSX. What I find strange is that no other application I run is having problems with Win 7. I can run Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 for hours on end without any problem, so it's not a hardware issue (Modern Warfare 2 pushes the hardware pretty hard).Let's keep looking, I'm starting to feel like we are finding some commonalities between systems (including Win 7 64). Anyone else running a SATA RAID. I have the Intel chipset on my motherboard running RAID 5 with 3 500GB drives.Happy flying,Eric
March 6, 201016 yr I think I found a workaround!!!Via msconfig in Win 7 I limited my system to use only one processor core. I flew a test flight of 3 hours, and up to now no freeze. Before that, I never succeeded to fly so long without a freeze.
March 10, 201016 yr I've read in a german forum that Saitek recommended not to have duplicate key assignments (e.g. yoke, keyboard, joystick)... I'm testing right now (have deleted all key assignments of my Yoke and Joystick)...
March 10, 201016 yr Flying now for 16 hours without a freeze :(Because of removing the duplicate key assignments? Wow! I'll try that, though I don't use Saitek gear. ;)
March 10, 201016 yr :( Hm, was excited too early.. an hour later after my last posting it's gone... frozen... I'm sure it will resume after a while... but certainly an improvement.. last action I did (after let it fly for 17 hours on autopilot without interfering) was changing the heading on the Saitek Multipanel... seemed not to like that... I've tracked my flight from Zurich to Hong Kong with XACARS.. when the freeze happens XACARS looses connection and reports postition 0/0... bummer... but it worked for a while... Resumed after 5 minutes (shorter than usually)
March 11, 201016 yr 24 hrs later I'll try the same, but this time I've deleted the heading bug assignment from the keyboard and just using the Saitek Multipanel... did not freeze yet even when using the heading selector... Anyway, since I've deleted all the duplicate key assignment it seems more stable...
