March 14, 201016 yr this same computer with the exact same hardware ran FSX perfectly under Vista Ultimate 64. Now after upgrading to Win 7 the problems have developed with the freezing in FSX.Happy flying,EricEric, this is my exact same story. I got this computer last Fall and ran it under Vista 64 flawlessly - now, under Win 7 64, I have the freezing. March 15, 201016 yr I've had enough! Before upgrading to Win 7 my FSX worked perfectly. Time to throw some hardware at the problem.Today I spent some time installing an additional hard drive in my machine with the intent of installing Vista 64 Ultimate with a multiboot for Win 7(default OS). After a couple of hours of installing Vista, loading drivers, and setting up the NT Loader, I can now choose between booting between Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit) and Win Vista Ultimate (64-bit). Didn't lose any of my Win 7 data, so life is good.Anyway, set up FSX including Acceleration and Live Traffic X on the Vista Ult 64 drive and it's working perfectly - just as it had before upgrading to Win 7. Seems to confirm the whole Win 7 problem. Flew a few flights that were guaranteed freezes under Win 7 without any issues at all.So until Microsoft comes up with an actual fix, this is mine: Multiboot Vista with Win 7, and use Vista for FSX. What's interesting is that most of the device drivers are the same for Win 7 and Vista, but something in FSX does not seem to like Win 7 at all. I had heard that he Aces Studios had written FSX with Vista as it's target OS, and that XP compatibility was needed because when FSX was released Vista was still in final development. Maybe something changed in Win 7 that the now laid off Aces staff hadn't anticipated.Happy flying,Eric Eric, this is my exact same story. March 17, 201016 yr Ok, two days now running Vista 64 Ultimate on multiboot with Win 7 Ultimate. This afternoon I had a FSX freeze while taxiing from the terminal at Tampa (KTPA). After forcing a quit, Vista informed me that I had 102 important updates that needed installed (my Vista disks are original before the service packs came out - I wonder if the automatic updates are causing problems?). After spending a gawd awful amount of time updating the computer I'm back to SP2 on Vista and FSX seems to be working OK again. I'll post if I have any other issues, but Vista seems to be more reliable than Win 7 so far. I've had enough! Before upgrading to Win 7 my FSX worked perfectly. March 17, 201016 yr I do hope switching back to Vista works for you, but I can say I have had these random freezes with Vista64 and Win7 64. Maybe its the 64-bit OS that causes the problem? I will say I've gone longer between freezes with Vista and actually thought moving to 7 would cure it :( John
March 18, 201016 yr I do hope switching back to Vista works for you, but I can say I have had these random freezes with Vista64 and Win7 64. Maybe its the 64-bit OS that causes the problem? I will say I've gone longer between freezes with Vista and actually thought moving to 7 would cure it :(Vista is still working well. I added a second monitor to my video card yesterday to be able to keep the GPS and some other panels open while flying. So far so good. If I had to, I'd reinstall XP Pro on a multiboot with Win 7 to get FSX stable. This FSX freezing issue should be getting someone's attention at MS as long as the error reports keep being sent.Fly Happy,Eric
April 11, 201016 yr Hi Guys, I had the same issue using Vista 64bit. The problem to solve it if anyone is still trying to fix the freeze issue is to change FPS to unlimited. That "should" do the fix. I had the issue for about 7 months using Vista 64bit and couldn't figure it out. I unistalled flightsim, reinstall all addons one by one and test. I even uninstalled my anti virus to see if the scanning was causing the problem. Nothing worked. I then changed my FPS to unlimited and flew from ATL to DXB and everything was fine. I couldn't have done that at all for the past 7 months or so. Hope it works.
April 19, 201016 yr Eric, this is totally my experience as well. While I haven't moved back to Vista 64 yet, I feel that I soon will. I need FSX for long-haul and long haul is NOGO with Win 7 64 Ultimate for me. I've had enough! Before upgrading to Win 7 my FSX worked perfectly. May 22, 201016 yr Just to add my post to the list.I also experienced the random freeze right after about 25 minutes after takeoff (from WSSS-VHHX). I used the PMDG 744X on FSX with Acceleration pack.My hardware:Intel core i7 980X.Asus P6T Deluxe V2.Gigabyte GeForce GTX 285.Kingston 6GB DDR3 1.066 Mhz.Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi.Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.I was flying over default terrain with ActiveSky Evolution, Ultimate Traffic 2, FSUIPC 4, RC4, GoFlight hardware, CH Products Pro Pedals and Pro Throttle, FlyEngravity CDU when suddenly the screen freezed. I didn't wait for it to continue. From what I've read in this thread, it seems that the one thing we have in common is Windows 7 64-bit.Jon
June 4, 201016 yr Had to dust off my old Forum account to belatedly get in on this topic. I have suffered through these random freezes since FSX was released; through three computers (Gateway P4 32 bit XP, Acer Q6600 32 biy Vista and with this custom built i7 860 64 bit Win 7) and through those situations described by other posters. I don't use real high settings, and in most cases, have my va's acars program running concurrently with the sim (although, like others, have had freezes while flying without acars). My last freeze was on 14 May; 2 hours and 3 mins into a Cathay Pacific 773 flight ... Hong Kong to Shanghai. I visited the forum and read through the BP=0 conclusion post. I read through all of *******' material, and applied it all to my .cfg, settings and files as suggested. After testing, I backed out the Shaders 3 stuff. Upon further testing, I had my first ever cdt (this through FS2k2 standard edition, FS9 and now FSX Accel). I changed from unlimited frames back to locked at 20, and got no more ctd's. So, effectively, I use *******' settings without unlimited frames, without the shaders fix, and with AffinityMask=14. My fsx.cfg was changed from my usual settings only by the settings I used from the BP=0 post.I realize that the freeze-ups could come back at any time. However, I have completed 39 freeze-free flights with the va (all commercial real airline routes and schedules...various port-over POSKY, Project Airbus, IFDG and SGA models), with the acars running with the sim. Flights are various lengths from 1 hour 12 mins to 4 hours and 45 mins. I also completed quite a few flights for another va, as well as my own "free" flights.Current computer...not at all immune from the freezies...is liquid cooled i7 860 stock (ht off, turbo-boost on), 8 gb matched ram with twin coolers, 1gb ATI 5770, 2 case intake fans and 1 case exhaust fan.For those who, like me, have been plagued with the freezes (my only unresolveable FSX problem)...I am not saying this is the cure, but....read through the BP=0 thread thoroughly and perhaps give it a try.All the best,Terry
June 7, 201015 yr Folks I have read this entire thread and will add my problem. I have had two maybe 3 freezes in all the time with FSX (since release). Each time all I get is sound and the entire PC freezes. Nothing works, mouse, keyboard..I have to shut down with the power switch and restart. This last time (Saturday) PC would not boot.....got a NTLDR would not load error. A Windows repair seems to have fixed it but I have not been back to FSX...My system is a 3 year old Gateway FX, Windows Vista 32 bit, 3 GB RAM, Intel Q6600, FSX updated with SP2, no third party addons by means of payware. Only WOAI planes and some freeware scenery, on board sound with updated driver, GTS8800 video card. This last freeze scared the crap out of me since it caused a boot problem. Cant afford to lose or have to reformat HD. Seems like a real mystery and hope a solution is found. ThanksBill
June 8, 201015 yr Just come across this helpful thread, after a Google search.I have exactly the same problem, since switching to W7 64 bit.I'm running a Q8800 with the affinity mask setting at =7. I've been running with FPS unlimited for over a year, so that doesn't seem to be a factor for me.I run THTG but eliminating that hasn't made a difference to the freezes.Latest move was to replace my original 4Gb of memory with 8Gb of 6400 and, for a couple of flights, that seemed to have made a difference. This morning, flying from Hong Kong to Chumphon, it's struck again. The only difference is that it hangs but the screens don't take on the milky appearance they previously did.I run ASv6 and disabling that seems to improve the situation, in terms of time between hangs. The only point I'd add to all those I've just read is that it doesn't seem to happen on long over water stretches. On this morning's flight, it happened exactly as I reached the coast, after an over seas stretch.I'm tempted to revert to FS9, for IFR flying, but don't like being a quitter!Gerry W

FSX is currently hanging but the sound is continuing. Previously when it hung the sound froze too.Gerry W
June 10, 201015 yr just to remind people, we have established that it happens in vista and win7on 32 and 64 bit versionswith and without fps=unlimitedapparently with any affinitymask settingat any altitudewith any aircraftThat said, I still haven't had a freeze since removing the USB input devices (Saitek)/ That's 400 hours and counting. Before that I had the freezes every 20-50 hours for 3 years. also reminder: and we are NOT talking about CRASHES, but recoverable, 2-8 minute freezing with no other effects. But, we are nowhere nearer to discovering the reason
June 13, 201015 yr I thought I'd try updating the drivers for my Asus P5B's on board Realtek sound. In the event, the update was a change to Soundmax. I've just tried a flight from Cochin to Karachi, on the basis it would give me more than the approx one hour overland, after which FSX normally hangs on my setup. With Soundmax it took only 10 minutes before the wheel appeared!I guess the good news is it establishes a link between on board sound and the hang problem.Off to look for a cheap sound card.Gerry W
June 18, 201015 yr Guys, take a look at the commentary on a similar Post that I made concerning a fix for fatal errors that worked for me in this thread:"Is there A Computer System on Earth That Can Avoid FSX "Fatal Error", Sure Would Like to Know"My fix is descibed in one of the posts in that thread, it worked for me eliminating my fatal errors.Well, I finally solved my "Fatal Errors" after reading some posts on this forum and some other forums. The key was finding what was causing the fatal error. I've got a Win7 64 bit computer as identified in the early posts in this thread. The key is opening a Windows Event Viewer which logs and identifies the application & module that is causing the fatal error. In my situation it was the Uiautomationcore.dll. Googgling that DLL I found a post that said in Windows7 64-bit, the DLL exists in the Windows\SysWOW64 folder and it does what it generally needs to do. FSX was developed in a 32 bit environment, when FSX loads it looks for the Uiautomationcore.dll and finds it in the WOW64 folder. However that DLL is the 64 bit version which works to a point and then gets overwhelmed because it's not the 32-bit Uiautomationcore.dll that FSX prefers. The post said do not touch the 64-bit DLL in the Windows\SysWOW64 folder as it may run other applications that you may have. I was instructed to download the 32-bit Uiautomationcore.dll which is something like 156KB, the 64-bit DLL is something like 750KB, and copy the 32-bit DLL into the Folder where FSX.exe resides. Now when FSX loads, it first looks in the FSX folder and finds the 32-bit Uiautomationcore.dll and is happy, it doesn't look further in the WOW64 folder. It works for me, the Uiautomationcore.dll was causing my problem. I recently flew from Darwin to Melbourne in excess of 1,700 miles in a CLS 767, with MyTraffic, FSDiscover, HiFi ASE, FS Real Time, FS WidgetsEFBSFX all running. In the past I may have gotten about 200miles before getting the dreaded "Fatal Error. Now, no fatal error and a completed flight. The fatal error for me was the Uiautomationcore.dll, if you have a Windows7 64-bit system, check the Event Viewer by entering that name in the bottom box (the start menu button on the far-left bottom of your computer). Find-out whats causing your fatal error. If it's not the Uiautomationcore.dll, what is it? The event viewer will tell you which module is causing the error, google-it and proceed to finding a solution if it's something other that the problem that I had.Tony
