August 13, 201015 yr I've been suffering with this problem as well. What appears to have solved it for me, was changing the fsx priority from normal to above normal. So far, doing long flights in the Level D 767 with custom scenery at departure and destination with real weather and AI at 75%; I have had no crashed or freezes. If you want to try it, you can use task mager to change the priority of fsx.exe when its running, or google for a process manager. I use this http://www.bill2-software.com/processmanager/download-en.shtmlBest wishesSteve Stephen Munn
August 16, 201015 yr I seem to have stopped my random freezing problems! Not sure if it will work for everyone but you should try completely removing the duplicated sound drivers if you have the same set up as me. AMD X2 gigabyte AM2 MoBo Nvid 9800 Realtek sound chip. Only let Windows 7 install the basic driver. I found this out by disabling the sound chip in the bios first and running FSX with no sound. (and no crashes!) The sound works fine with the basic windows drivers anyway. Best of luck...hope this works for you.

Then I also purchased FSUIPC to control my Saitek Yoke... now my freezes don't last as long (only about 2 minutes max)....
September 21, 201015 yr Hey all...Just jumping in here. I'm glad to see that I am not alone but at the same time sympathize with those of us here who do have this issue...My System: - Windows 7 Ultimate x64 - FSX + Acceleration (with *******' texture fix applied), Frames locked at 30, detail level pretty darn high, mainly for FSDreamteam sceneries. - Intel Core2Quad Q9550 3.0GHZ (not over-clocked) - Corsair XMS DDR2 800 @ 8GB, 2 pairs - Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P, Rev 1.1 (Using the RealTek onboard sound with current drivers from Gigabyte - they just released new drivers a few weeks ago that I haven't installed yet though) - Seagate Barracuda 160GB SATA HDD's x 2 (One for system and the other specifically for FSX and related programs; C: and D: respectively) - XFX NVidia GeForce GTX260 'Black Edition' w 896Mb (Current 200-series drivers and tweaked AA and AA transparency settings with NSpector since NHancer doesn't work with these newer drivers yet) - Saitek X52 Pro + pedals, Eclipse II keyboard, Logitec Wireless trackball3rd party stuff: - FSUIPC, registered + WideFS, registered - Active Sky Evolution + X Graphics - Squawkbox 4 (I fly online 99.9% of the time) - FSBuild - CaptainSim: 727 Captain + expansion, 757 Captain + expansion, 767 Captain + expansion, C-130 xperience - PMDG: QotS + 8i expansion (EAGERLY AWAITING NGX! ;) ) - Wilco: All commercial aircraft for FSX except ERJ v 2.0, E-Jets v 2.0 - Coolsky MD-80 Classic - Flight1: ATR - FSDreamteam: KJFK, KDFWOf course, I get the exact same problem and have been for years, as all of us here have been. FSX would just lock up in flight, sound still plays. Not every flight though... I can go about 20 - 30 hours of flight time before this rears it's ugly head again. I can ALT-TAB to get to my task bar, at which time I can then get to Task Manager to see that FSX is "Not Responding" (duh), but also, my ACARS program is Not Responding as well. CPU cores are maxxed out...The latest case was on approach to KSMF from KSLC. Flying the Wilco CRJ-2004(X), FL320, Running ASE, online with SB4 and my VA's ACARS running in the background. Flew the entire flight fine, up until I was descended to about 8K and getting ready to intercept the ILS. Then she froze! Needless to say - THAT SUCKED. I waited for about 10 minutes, ALT-TABBING around hoping that would hurry up and un-freeze me, but this time it just took too long and I gave up. I flew the flight another day and made it in. Go figure... It's as usual with this error.I do have a spare Creative Labs X-Fi Titanium PCI-e card that I'm thinking about trying now, looking at some of the sound related posts... This and the processor thread theories seem to "feel" like they make the most sense. Dunno...Just thought I'd add my system, sympathies, and $0.02 to the "database" here... :) ... I really hope Microsoft is watching and we figure this thing out. There's nothing more frustrating than spending hours in the cockpit flying for a VA that you are recording time through ACARS for, and then having this freeze strike you! I've lost many hours of flight time because of this. - Robert Robert Shepherd
September 29, 201015 yr Sad to see how many we are having this problem but like someone else said at least it's good to know you're not alone.I've been having this problem in FSX for as long as I can remember and looking in the rear mirror I have during that time both used different addons and different hardware and OSes. My current spec is in my signature. One thing is most of you are still having sound during these freezes, for me the sound stops too during the freezes and all I have is a milky/shadowed FSX screen reported as 'Not responding' and no sound. Also when looking at the CPU utilization my cores are not at 100% but instead not utilized very hard at all. Many months ago I once thought I had found a solution...to run FSX in compatibility mode for Win XP SP2. Although it worked for a while (maybe about 20-30 hours flying in total) then all of a sudden the problem was back and now I'm back running FSX without using the compatibility mode. Also thought for a while it had to do with the IvAp client used to fly online on IVAO since I fly 99% of my time online and those few times when flying offline I didn't have any freezes but then I had them once or twice also when flying offline so so much for that theory... Lately I've also experienced a problem that is new to me...CTDs where the faulting module is reported as ntdll.dll but during this period I've been flying PMDG's J41 with the voice edition of FS2Crew exclusively so that might be a problem with one of those addons or a mix of both. Asked in their forums about it but it wasn't an already known problem so might still be something else causing it. I've checked the ntdll.dll file using the checkdisk /sfc command but no problem was found.Right now I'm so tired of having my fun flying in FSX spoiled by these tiresome problems so I'm about to perform one last attempt reinstalling my PC including both Windows and FSX but again...I've had this problem for as long as I can remember so unless someone is able to find the magic button to press maybe all one can hope for is this problem at least will be gone in MS Flight...assuming MS Flight will be a worthy successor to FS and not only a "game"To finish this long post and since it's a little bit hard to keep track of in a long thread like this one, is there anyone who found a cure to the problem that still holds?
October 25, 201015 yr Just found this link over at the Orbx/FTX forums regarding freezing in Windows 7.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2265716/en-usCredit goes to Wolter van der SpoelThe issue may exist for XP users as well (legacy problem), but MS hasn't mentioned it so far as I can tell. Just read the hotfix description and this could be promising. Would explain a lot about how these "Deadlocks" as they are called, affect us here. Not getting too excited yet; but I am going to install this hotfix. Only time will tell if this fixes us up... :)Thanks Steveo38!Robert- Robert Shepherd
November 8, 201015 yr I feel for everyone here... having the same problem with W7 and FSX SP2 with Acceleration Pack.Running newest video drivers for nVidia 9800 GTX+ and sound drivers for SB X-Fi Xtreme. I will also try setting the FSX.exe I also got the hotfix info, will load it and will post the results here for you guys. Thanks,Marek <a href="http://www.vatsigs.net">VATSIGS.net</a>
May 15, 201115 yr unfortunately in my case the faulting module in application event log is 'unknown' and all memory locations are 000x0000 0000 I had fixed this exact problem on my Laptop (also Windows 7 64bit) by going through MS compatibility wizard and telling the machine that FSX is a Vista program. After that I never once had the generic Fatal error crashes, even after 8 hour flights at high altitude. Now that I have rebuilt an older desktop I have it is a regular thing. I might try that compatibility stuff again. ALSO: I have always run FSX as administrator, and turned down UAC as low as it will go.
July 7, 201114 yr Add one more for the team.I have a very interesting background to this whole thing, though...I've had my computer for about 2.5 years now with little more than adding memory for upgrades. It's got a nVidia GTX 280, Intel Q6700, Vista 64, and 8Gb RAM. FSX had been running reasonably well for me up until recently. I had the occasional BSOD (attributed to overheating issues due to a dusty intake which I had fixed), and on occasion a hiccup here and there. Now, a few weeks ago, while I thought I was updating my Vista this whole time, I discovered that somehow, despite me updating Vista regularly (by shutting down a few times a month with the big "update" icon in the start menu) I learned that there were tons of updates that hadn't been installed yet, some years old. I spent a whole day updating Vista to the latest and greatest, full knowing I was taking a risk by updating straight from an old version to a new version. I really have no idea how so many critical updates went AWOL, but shortly after that I noticed the freezing. The freezing seem to be all similar to everybody else's: random, but at high altitudes, some flights are fine, others freeze, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with CPU load or graphic settings. So, what really irks me is I'm pretty sure something in this OS update made things go awry, but obviously I can't narrow it down to any one of the dozens of updates I made. There were driver updates, security updates, performance updates, the whole nine yards. Any one, or any combination of those updates could have been to blame for the freezing issues I'm having now.I should also note that I had recently installed backup software. However, I had this software shut down and it still froze. Now, about the sound theory... that might have some merit, because another thing I did recently was enable cockpit sounds when previously cockpit sounds were turned off (once I turned them on I realized why I had turned them off long ago in the first place: for some reason using Traffic X I hear the light switch sounds in all the aircraft surrounding me and it was driving me nuts. I'll see if despite all the OS updates I made recently that turns out to be the culprit. It kind of stinks figuring it out because it's so random and happens so intermittently (probably once a week for me, which is likely far more frequent than the every 50-60 hours you guys are reporting. For me it's probably more like every 10 hours or so) and it especially annoys me that this just started happening after years of it working mostly fine.I'll keep you updated. Randall Huck
August 27, 201114 yr +1 to the problem. Ok so a couple of months ago i completely stopped playing FSX cause of random freezes or crushes. I had completely no clue why was this happening. Recently i installed FSX again and it was good for a couple of days. Here's my rig : - AMD Phenom II X4 550 BE (4,1 ghz)- GTX 280 SSC- 4 gigs of ram- Win 7 64 bit So basically i fly on FSX, REX, payware planes, ASX, GEX. Im using two common fixes : - DisablePreload=1 in FSX.cfg (removed crushes on plane choosing menu)- Uiautomationcore.dll . I've got 32 bit version in FSX folder (it was supposed to fix the crushes) So recently i made a couple of really long flights (over 3 hours). There were no probs at all. But i've started using "windowed" version of FSX. Guess what, the game ALWAYS crushes or freezes after using windowed mode. It doesn't matter if im gonna switch from fullscreen to windowed for 5 minutes, if im gonna get back to fullscreen, the game will crush anyway up to 30 minutes time. So yeah again, another flight, fullscreen only - no crushes or freezes. So i was like, "hell yeah, maybe i can actually fly this unfinished and bugged #@*#.".But no. Another problem appeared. Im flying online on vatsim, wich also pushes me to using a few other programs. Squawbox, FSuiPC, FS Commander, application for tracking my plane from my Airlines, FS Acars. So yeah, even on fullscreen mode, the game likes to freeze or crush without any reason, because it get's somehow "overwhelmed" by the number of connections to the client. At this point, im just surrendering again, im going back to stable FS 2004. I guess you still can get shiny graphics and terrains on 2004 version and it doesn't crush at all. Freakin Microsoft.
September 25, 201114 yr Hi to all, I have fsx Deluxe installed on my Win 7 32 bit laptop and it just keeps freezing and crashing... So like ill be flying a mission or free flight or something, and then ill click a switch or do something in the game and the game will freeze, windows 7 will do its attempting to recover thing and the it will just crash... #####! Ive looked on pretty much every page on google related to my problem and its not helping.... My laptop specs are: Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit (x86)Intel Core 2 Duo 2.20Ghz (T6600)4GB DDR3 Ram (3.50 GB usable)ATI Radeon HD 4300 Series I have been told that i should switch to 64 bit and try that... but ive had some bad experiences with 64bit so im a little cautious... Can anyone help me? Just so you know, at times my laptop goes like its got an i5 so its pretty fast for some reason.... So i dont think its a power issue... Thanx in advance

Thanx in advanceThe 32 bit OS version means you have to install the 3GB switch. Check this link for details on how to employ the switch on your system: http://www.simforums.com/Forums/topic29041.html (look halfway down the page where he discusses memory). Doesn't mean this is the fix for your problem but it might. You should switch to a 64 bit version as it handles memory much better and it works for all programs. Also, look into your Event Viewer and you should see the reason for FSX crashing. You'll have the error code 0xc0000005 and probably it will reference a FSX .dll, like ntdll.dll or g3d.dll. The error code means you had a "memory exception error" which is hard to diagnose but I'm sure it's because you do not have the 3GB switch employed. Best regards,Jim
September 28, 201114 yr Hi, I think I nearly have had all problems you can have with FSX (and the number is very very high ;) ). First I "just" had crashes that are real CTDs. Then I figured out the type of freezes - not CTDs - this thread is about. I tried everything the last 3 Weeks. I was more trying to have a FSX running on extreme high settings stable than using the FSX what it is meant to do: FLY! What I did: Nearly all possible combinations of fsx.cfg related tweaks: buffer pools on/off/different sizes etc., disablepreload on/off, texture bandwith, fiber time fraction and so on. No cure. Then I also disabled the sound of the motherboard. No changes. Then I tried to use FSX without an external FPS Limiter. No changes. Disabled the "Application Experience Service" as mentioned in this thread. No changes. I don't know who else uses the ENB MOD, but I do and I like the style. In the end of all my tweaking fsx.cfg changes and environment changing things, I removed the ENB MOD from my FSX. And guess what: The FSX is running smooth as silk without any crashes, freezes or CTD stuff. I switched from window to fullscreen mode 10 times in a row, clicked through the menus, saved while flying, changed Time and date settings, changed plane settings. So basically everything that former ended up in CTDs. In the first 5 min I was a little bit suffering because of missing the ENB Style. But then I could barely notice the difference anymore and was happy to have FSX running as it should. The scenery is still looking faboulous on ultra high settings, so I don't see the difference to the ENB version. The only change I notice is that the Virtual Cockpit isn't so sharp as it was with the ENB Mod enabled (I changed the sharpen settings to higher values). To sum up, I definitely recommend to remove the ENB Mod for those you use it and have freezes or CTDs. Edit: I also have the Saitek X52 Pro. Yes, sometimes it is responsible for CTDs. I don't know if it is the same behavior for you, but for me it is this way: The Saitek-related CTD comes only at the beginning of loading the flight. The screen freezes at 0% and then crashes to desktop. When I simply plug out and plug in the Saitek Stick and reload the same flight, it works again. This is my workaround for the Saitek related CTDs. But maybe these crashes past when I switch back to the newest 64Bit drivers. Currently I have the original driveres from the CD installed.
