October 10, 200916 yr I have finally found a solution to a problem I have had with FSX for over a year. Whenever I would use 3rd party A/C and after flying for more than an hour or so, my graphics display would go beserk after switching from 3d to 2d and back (either going to menu and back or switching (alt+ENTER). Sometimes I would loose A/C textures completely or partially. and I could only resort to terminating FSX. I changed MB's, memory, CPU's, video cards, OS's and all the different FSX configurations I could find. Nothing fixed the problem. In last resort, last night, I tried changing my resolution from 1600x1200 to 1280x1024 and everything worked perfectly. The strange thing is that I was not having any problems with FSX default or PMDG A/C. I had read tips to use highest resolution system was capable of using CRT's, and my monitor is capable of handling that. I certainly don't have a high end system but should have been adequate to handle the 1600x1200 resolution. I do have just about everything maxed out.I believe my entire problem was one of memory usage and limitations. My question now is:* Does FSX can and use more than system with 4 gigs?* Why FSX default and PMDG A/C's not affected?Perhaps some brilliant soul could help me understand this very annoying problem I had experienced so long.ThanksWilbert ASUS P5Q SE PLUS/Thermaltake W0106 700W PSUIntel E8500 - 3.10 OC TO 3.80Vista Ultimate 64 SP2/CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB)2x150GB SATA WD Raptor- No Raid/2x320GB SATA WD SE16- No Raid2x IDE Light-On DVDRW 165H65/EVGA GTX285 2g mem3x SILENX 120X25MM FANS + 2x 10in XCLIO Wind Tunnel Case FansDanger Den Water Cooling/Enermax temp/fan controllerFSX ACC@ 1280x1024x32 |UTX/ASX/FEX/MTX/ASA/REX/UT2/FsPsgrsX/DBS W & F/PMDG 747/3D shockwave/USA & World Extreme Landscape/Aerosim 777 Wilbert
October 11, 200916 yr Author Now, I know I was a bit premature in believing I had solved my problem. After trying to complete a longer flight (3 hrs), the problem re-occured. I am now still facing the original problem with my graphics becoming corrupt however, it is taking a longer time flying to happen. I still believing it is related to a memory thing. I am still hoping for a solution to this.BTW, what happened to my original post concerning this problem?WilbertASUS P5Q SE PLUS/Thermaltake W0106 700W PSUIntel E8500 - 3.10 OC TO 3.80Vista Ultimate 64 SP2/CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB)2x150GB SATA WD Raptor- No Raid/2x320GB SATA WD SE16- No Raid2x IDE Light-On DVDRW 165H65/EVGA GTX285 2g mem3x SILENX 120X25MM FANS + 2x 10in XCLIO Wind Tunnel Case FansDanger Den Water Cooling/Enermax temp/fan controllerFSX ACC@ 1280x1024x32 |UTX/ASX/FEX/MTX/ASA/REX/UT2/FsPsgrsX/DBS W & F/PMDG 747/3D shockwave/USA & World Extreme Landscape/Aerosim 777 Wilbert
October 11, 200916 yr Wilbert, I've recently had the same thing happen. After a three hour flight I started losing ground textures on approach. I just got blue squares here and there. When I was finally on the ground, all of the terminal buildings were gone.Eventually the screen went black, although the sim was still running. I had the same thing happen again after a five and a half hour flight. I don't believe that it was video card overheating. I'm stumped.
October 11, 200916 yr I have had a similar issue with disappearing graphics on longer flights (over 2-3 hours), I noticed both of you listed you have GTX285 cards which is what I have as well. I wonder if it's something to do with Nvidia's more recent [email protected], 4GB, GTX285 1MB with 191.07 drivers, Vista 32
October 12, 200916 yr Author I have tried just about all the nvidia drivers and results are still the same. It happened when I was using QX6700 CPU also. It happened when I was using a GTX260. It happened when I was using different MB and different memory. I have posted about this problem for over a year now and no one has been able to help. It is not a heat problem because my system is water cooled and neither my CPU or video card is overheating. I thought I was the only one having this problem and the problem was "ME".I think the problem has something to do with memory. It does not happen when I first start FSX. I can go to 2d menu and back and also do the "ale + ENTER thing, and all graphics display are fine. I never even receive any FSX or system errors. I just did another backup of my system and was about to do another clean install of Vista 64 and also FSX. I really hate doing this because of all the difficulties involved with securities of all my addons. It usually takes me a couple of days to reinstall everything.I believe it is just one simple thing that can fix this because so many others are not having any problems with simular setups.Still opened for any ideas and suggestions.WilbertASUS P5Q SE PLUS/Thermaltake W0106 700W PSUIntel E8500 - 3.10 OC TO 3.80Vista Ultimate 64 SP2/CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB)2x150GB SATA WD Raptor- No Raid/2x320GB SATA WD SE16- No Raid2x IDE Light-On DVDRW 165H65/EVGA GTX285 2g mem3x SILENX 120X25MM FANS + 2x 10in XCLIO Wind Tunnel Case FansDanger Den Water Cooling/Enermax temp/fan controllerFSX ACC@ 1280x1024x32 |UTX/ASX/FEX/MTX/ASA/REX/UT2/FsPsgrsX/DBS W & F/PMDG 747/3D shockwave/USA & World Extreme Landscape/Aerosim 777 Wilbert
October 12, 200916 yr I switched to DX10 mode and was finally able to complete a flight in the PMDG MD-11 from Las Vegas to Honolulu which I could not complete before due to disappearing aircraft textures. Unfortunately, DX10 mode has it's own drawbacks (flashing taxi textures, some incompatiblities with FSDreamteams KLAS) but at least the aircraft textures did not disappear. Give it a try, maybe it will be compatabile with whatever add-ons you have.

Only problem, I haven't seen anyone suggest a fix. People have recommended switching drivers, but to which ones. There is so darn many of them. Would love a solution to this.
October 12, 200916 yr I am having the same issues, i read last week in the PMDG forum that by lowering the default format in the "speakers properties" to: 16 bit, 8000 hz (telephone quality), was fixing that issue... quick flight i did this week end was positive, will have to investigate some more...Alain from Montreal
