Insufficient power

Featured Replies

HiI keep getting CTD's and failed to read from file errors when running FSF SP2 ona XP system. Here are my specs:Geforce 880 GTS ASUS GDCPU Core2 duo E8500 3.1ghzMB Asus Maximus Republic of gamersRam: 4096mb DDR2 PC2-6400Corsair XMs2 80PSU Corsair 650W TX seriesI suspect a insufficient power supply to cause the problems.Do you agree?KindlyJakob Arnholtz

Take it one step at a time.I don't think you have insufficient power 650 W should be enough.. does that mean you don't have power problems no, but power usually either works or not.Your FSX app is closing and your being sent back to your desktop where your OS is still running and all other apps are OK?I would investigate the file read errors first. Are there any disk errors in your event log? I have seen bad Y connectors cause disk error like this.If your hard drive is loading garbage into the CPU, then CTD isn't hard to figure.

...welll, I must look for the cause somewhere else in my system.Thank you for your helpJakob

Jakob,If you go to this website: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp you can get a good idea as to the power supply you might need. As Pierre said, I too beleive you have ample power in your system. Might be heat that's causing problems.

Hoping For CAVU --- Chris

IF you using vista, and fsx is installed in C:Programs it could be vista refusing access to the file.a defrag could helpyou could try regenerating fsx.cfg, make sure to backup your standard.xml fsx controls file before this.or you could pull out your fsx cd and let it repair your installation.
