October 15, 200916 yr I am just trying to get a sense of whether my computer can handle the JS41 with decent framerates. I have the Fllight1 ATR72, and in VC mode, with normal textures (not hi-res), I get pretty smooth performance at KJFK. Does anyone else have this ATR, and the JS41, so you can tell me that if framerates are decent with the ATR, I should be OK with the JS41? I don't want to buy something that is going cause stutters and jerky performance. Thanks for the help. Greg Goodavish
October 15, 200916 yr Greg,It's usually best, when asking this kind of question, to give your computer specs. October 15, 200916 yr Author Greg,It's usually best, when asking this kind of question, to give your computer specs. Here they are:Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8300 @ 2.83GHz 2.84GHz2.00 GB Memory (RAM)OS Vista 32 bit Greg Goodavish
October 15, 200916 yr The J41 is pretty demanding in frames. My system (in my sig) can run it quite well with at near max settings with REX. I get between 20-40 fps at Friday Harbour.Remember that FSX is mostly about CPU power. You can probably get a little bit more out of your CPU. Perhaps OC it to around 3.1 or 3.2 GHz. FSX Also requires a lot of RAM. I would suggest a bare minimum of 3 GB for smooth performance and no worrying about memory leaks.Remember to sign your full name in your posts. :( Erik L.
October 16, 200916 yr Author OK, thanks. No idea how to "overclock" a CPU. Will that shorten the life of it and void a warranty? Also, does anyone here have the Flight1 ATR and have flown it in VC mode in FSX? I know this aircraft is framerate intensive as well, and am trying to see if the FR are close to the same for both of these aircraft. If they are, I can get the JS41, since I can fly the ATR well in FSX. Anyone? Greg Goodavish
October 16, 200916 yr Greg,Overclocking technically is voiding the warranty, but only if you tell them that you have overclocked it when trying to claim repair on warranty ;). And yes it can shorten the lifespan, but unless you're an extreme overclocker it won't be a noticable change :). Andrew McCluskey
October 16, 200916 yr Hi GregBefore going any further I have to say that when comparing the frame rates of the ATR against those of the Jetstream, or any other aircraft for that matter, there are so many different variables that can affect performance from system to system that it can only be at best an extremely rough guide. But to your question, starting a mid day flight in the VC on the active at KLAX (I used KLAX as it can be a bit on the demanding side, and everybody has a copy), I get a very slight frame rate decrease when using the Jetstream, 2 to 4 FPS, I hope it helps you choose, myself if I was happy with the ATR frames on my set-up I would go for it, but at the end of the day it
