October 21, 200916 yr Following a discussion in another forum here, I experimented with ADE9X to place a new VOR. Despite what the ADE9X manual says, I found the the magvar entered for the VOR did have an effect - effectively rotating the VOR by whatever value is input. Has anyone else found this? Gerry Howard
October 22, 200916 yr Go to CYUX. In the GPS, set a direct to YUX VOR. GPS gives a course of 358. Turn your aircraft to 358 and you are headed directly towards it. Now tune the VOR and center your OBS. It will show about 323. Local magvar is showing as W34.8. Per Canadian flight rules, the VOR is at magvar W0.scott s..
October 22, 200916 yr Author To clarify, I used ADE9X to create a new VOR and added 90 deg to the suggested magvar of 3.5 deg. I positioned it at the far end of the runway on my default airport. The GPS, directional gyro, and compass as all generally agree at 72 deg. The two VORs show the radial as 340 deg FROM and 160 deg TO (to the nearest 10 deg) That is, they are rotated by 90 deg. Gerry Howard

In the next release I should have everything sorted and the manual saying the correct things. There is no consistency between FS9 and FSX. What we could do in FS9 with certain Navaids cannot be done in FSX so it is taking me longer then I had plan to get ADE9X to do all the correct things.

The point I'm making arises, I believe, from Microsoft's implementation of FS2004. I can't see why there is any need to use a value for magvar from a navaid/airport when there is a global magvar available. It can only lead to the sort of inconsistency I highlighted in my earlier post. Gerry Howard
