October 24, 200916 yr HelloOk, I know this is a minor detail but...I love the default 747 but something has been annoying me lately. Whenever I fly the other planes like 737, Lear Jet and Airbus A321 etc. When they are in level flight i.e. (zero vertical speed and say for emaple 350 KIAS) they all appear to fly level from an external view. However has any one else noticed that the 747 seems to fly along with its nose pitched up as shown in the picture below. It even does it when flying at high speeds.http://www.house-numbers-delivered.co.uk/747.pngMaybe I am doing something wrong? Do other people notice this?Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.Lazza Keithy George
October 24, 200916 yr Flying slightly pitched-up is usually the most efficient cruising angle of attack for a large commercial airliner. Keep in mind that your 747 is a lot heavier than an A321 or B737 and thus it will tend to fly nose-up more to counteract the added weight. And then, VERY gradually, it will decrease its pitch as it gets lighter as it burns off more fuel. October 25, 200916 yr lazza:the default 747 flight model is not all that good. try one of the many freeware 747 that include an updated, improved, new flight 'air' file.on the PFD, if pitch is at +2-3 degrees you are OK. if higher you are likely overweight for the altitude you are flying. 747's like a cruise speed of M0.82-M0.84.looking at the outside model isn't always the best as the length of the aircraft makes a small pitch, over a long distance, look greater.-- D. October 25, 200916 yr It's easy to fly the default aircraft at MTOW or overweight. Be sure to check your fuel and payload, hopefully that will make the difference you are looking for.Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM
October 25, 200916 yr Author Thanks to everyone for replying, that makes sense now.Adjust fuel / payloadExpect it to fly nose up as its a heavier aircraftLook for improved 747 fileCheers guys Keithy George
October 27, 200916 yr I'm guessing its your weight and/or CG (Center of Gravity) on the aircraft. With advance 747 sims you can use the FMC to correctly trim the airplane for the weight and CG, but even so you still won't have a perfect attitude with 0 angle of attack.
