November 1, 200916 yr Hi,After another session of FS9 crashing due to a atc.dll error and the fact that i want to make the sim more realistic, i have decided that Radar Contact is the product i need to get.I have seen thatthere is a version 5 due out sometime in the new year, so i was wondering that if i bought the current version then would i have to pay to upgrade to v5?I would like to buy it now but will have to wait if it is going to cost me more in the long run as i would like to have v5?Also, can anyone confirm that Radar contact does eliminate the bugs found within the default atc.dll?thanks
November 2, 200916 yr You will have to pay for version 5 if you already have version 4 but at a reduced rate then if you wait for version 5. Your total cost will be more for version 4 plus version 5 then it would be if you waited for version 5. That being said, you may as well buy versiion 4 and start enjoying real ATC. Don't kmow about the atc.dll thing. Hasn't happened to me.JimCYWG
November 2, 200916 yr Don't pin your hopes and plans to RCv5 being out any time soon. It may be out tomorrow (no bloody likely lad) or on Dec 31, 2009, or ? I'd buy RCv4 and enjoy the ride. Can't speak as to the atc.dll either. sorry Dan George (woodhick)Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.
November 2, 200916 yr Re: atc.dllThere is a known problem with FS that certain repeated consecutive comm frequencies will cause that to crash. Think ATIS and other departure and arrival frequencies.RC4 will let you change comm frequencies for arrival and destination but in version four these will not be sticky between sessions.RC5 will derive airport comm frequencies from your airport scenery files. If you change them with AFCAD for FS9 or ASX for FSX or ADE9X for both, those changes will be recognized when you rebuild the scenery database. When it comes time to run FS without using its ATC functions because you are using another ATC app, there is a statement you can put in FSUIPC.ini that will shut down certain FS ATC processes. This will not affect AI operations. RC maintains its own AI comms so you'll still hear ATC comms to them as originated by RC. Of course your aircraft will still have full comms. This has been shown to be effective in most cases. For FS9 be sure you have the 9.1 version and the latest SP for FSX.
