Disappearing Scenery, Help!

Featured Replies

Lately, I have been noticing that certain addon airports are not there when I land. The afcad is active, as well as the scenery in the library, but there are no objects, or the default airport is there. This only happens on arrival. #####?After I land at a blank airport, I shut down the sim, instantly reload FS, without doing anything else, and the entire airport shows up as it should. For some reason, FS is not loading the arrival airport objects during approach. This used to happen rarely, but it is becoming more frequent. It doesn't matter who made the scenery. This has happened at Incheon RKSI, Mexico City MMMX, Fly Tampa's KORD, Mach 1's KSJC and KOAK, Cloud 9's KLAX, and Amsterdam EHAM.My frames at the heaviest airports never drop below 10, so I don't think its a memory thing. I do have FS on my main hard drive with the system files, and I also have a seperate stock install of FS on another drive. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. This is very frustrating.

I think the first thing to check should be scenery layering and priority. If your scenery configuration file is 'scrambled' you could get the problems you describe. There is a nifty little utility program called Flight Sim Manager that can, among other things , check and reorder your scenery layers. I you want the program and can't find it, post back here and we can go from there. I hope this helps you on your way to fixing your problem.Best regards,Mel

That's a new one on me :( The only thing I can think of, is that a lot of scenery built for fs2k2 and prior made use of a "visibility radius" setting, that keeps an object from being drawn until the viewpoint is within the visibility radius of the object. This was used to improve frames, by not drawing stuff until you got close. But once you get to the airport, it should all be showing up.In FS9/X they introduced the idea of level of detail (LOD) GMAX models, which provide the ability to create simplified models for use when the object is in the distance.I hope some one else has an idea on what might cause this, as I am stumped!scott s..

This may sound a silly question, but are these airports correctly registered? Unregistered versions of some (at least) of those you list do deliberately disappear after a set amount of time as they act as demo versions in that form.A quick way to check would be to visit one of those airports afresh and leave FS running for a while and see if the buildings disappear.John

All my stuff is reg'd, but the problem happens with freeware and even some of my own scenery.I tried reorganizing the scenery library and doing a big defrag. I've flown around a bit with everything showing up... until....tonight. I flew a short flight from PDX to LGB(which I am currently building). I am on final and I notice most of LGB is missing. There are about 15 active bgl files for LGB and only the exclude bgls and one, single scenery bgl are working. The afcad, which is in the scenery folder, is active and working, but all of the other bgls are dead. I shut down the sim, restart, and presto, everything's back. I still don't know #####! :(

I still have not found a solution. It happened last night at JFK. I shut it down, restarted, and everything was perfect.I don't have any out of memory errors, I am running 25GB of ram( 2 Gig sticks and 2 512Meg sticks), should be 3Gig but only reads 2.5My frames are good, but my textures take a while to load. Especially near large airports, my plane will be all gray for several minutes no matter which view. I usually hit the "reload scenery" key, and then everything loads up fine.Actually, this problem may have started around the same time I started using the "rs" key. Could that be what is destabilizing my system?
