Is that still the case?RegardsPeterH
December 31, 200916 yr Yes. Acceleration contains both SP1 and SP2 and will upgrade accordingly.Best regards,JimNo, he said he already has SP2 installed...!! I wonder (and doubt) if you can install Acceleration OVER FSX with SP2 installed... There ARE differences between the download SP2 and the Acceleration SP2, so... I would de- and reinstall FSX and then install Acceleration without touching the downloadable SP1 and SP2 patches...
January 1, 201016 yr No, he said he already has SP2 installed...!! I wonder (and doubt) if you can install Acceleration OVER FSX with SP2 installed... There ARE differences between the download SP2 and the Acceleration SP2, so... I would de- and reinstall FSX and then install Acceleration without touching the downloadable SP1 and SP2 patches...SP2 was released after Acceleration but I still see no problem with installing Acceleration over SP2. SP2 only contains coding to make sure no one can use the special features installed with Acceleration like new missions and aircraft. Otherwise, they are the same. Me thinks the "special coding" is contained in the respective FSX executes and maybe some dlls. So don't really see an issue. Phil Taylor wrote a lot about the differences in SP2/Acceleration here: http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive/2007...on-and-sp2.aspx. If there was a problem, I'm sure it would have been made an issue a long time ago as Acceleration has been out for some time and a lot of people who didn't get Acceleration right away and instead waited for SP2 have probably installed Acceleration later. But the OP can simply uninstall SP2 then install Acceleration if he thinks it's safer but I really don't think it's necessary. Best regards and Happy New Year,Jim
January 1, 201016 yr If Acceleration can't tell the difference between an SP1 and SP2 install and install accordingly, it would be suitable justification for the elimination of the ACES team. When one MS package can't talk to another MS proprietary package and install accordingly, it's time for a change. The answer is, try it and see. It will either run no trouble, or it will vomit up an error message and you'll just have to de-install SP2 first.
January 1, 201016 yr Service Pack 2 Installation Notes* If install SP2 and later purchase Flight Simulator X: Acceleration, you must uninstall SP2 before installing Acceleration. I rest my case. ;)And tbw about the downloadable SP2 and the Acceleration SP2 being the same... read this and this! Reality XP had to release a patch to get things working for people who installed the downloadable SP2, while those who had Acceleration needed no patch...
January 1, 201016 yr The versions of simconnect used between SP2 and Acceleration SP2 are different as well are some other things. They are not identical.Jeroen is 100% correct. If one tries to install Acceleartion after SP2 has been installed you will recevie an error message stating that Acceleration cannot be installed until SP2 is uninstalled. Installing Acceleration over SP2 cannot be done. It is impossible. If one is going through the process of a new install, and plans on using Acceleration the coreect install order is FSX then Acceleration. The Acceleration install will install both SP1 and Acceleration SP2 components. If one is not going to use Acceleration, the correct install order will be FSX, SP1 and then SP2.

Thanks Jeroen for finding the link. FWIW, I know SP2 and the Acceleration SP2 are not the same and tried (unsuccessfully) to point that out. I'm really surprised this issue has never come up before and it was a good question from the OP.Best regards,Jim

January 1, 201016 yr I must be invisible - this was the third post in this saga!! :( RegardsEr... did someone say something? I think I heard something... :( :(
January 1, 201016 yr I am just curious, but I had acceleration installed on my Vista 64 setup, and then when I swtiched to Windows 7 64, I did not install it due to reading a number of posts saying that it had a tendency to mess with certain third party addons (such as Level-D 767, etc.). I am wondering now that I have intalled Win 7 and have reinstalled all of my addons (and I have a ton of them including almost all of the complex jet aircraft addons from PMDG, Level-D, and Flight1). I also have almost all of the Aerosoft airports, blueprint simultations airports, and a couple of FSDreamTeam Airports. Couple these all with all of the available GEX, UTX, and then REX, I am wondering if someone can chime in on as to whether I should leave well enough alone, or if there is something to be gained from reinstalling acceleration over just having SP1 and SP2 installed. FYI, if it would require anything more than just an uninstall of SP2 (such as a fresh FSX reinstall with all addons) then I would not do it since it took so darn long to reinstall for Win 7. Thanks for any input, and I apologize in advance as I know this has been kicked around before in other threads.Cheers and Happy New Year to All, Pete Pete Solov - Lake in the Hills 3CK and Schaumburg Regional 06CProud AOPA Member - PPL 2001Real World Piper Cherokee Pilot
January 1, 201016 yr It is simple. If you want Acceleration and the extra benefits it brings such has carrier landings, F-18, P-51 etc..... Then uninstall SP2 and install Acceleration. If your not missing any features from Acceleration then leave well enough alone.Regards,Bob
