FS9 crash when loading new CYZF and CYYJ

Featured Replies

HiFirst, let me thank the authors of (Sidney Schwartz, Peter Ham and Don Grovestine) these two freeware sceneries for their contribution.I had no problem with CYYJ V5.02 as far as I remember.I installed CYZF last week and noticed that I was getting a CTD (terrain.dll or g3d.dll) when loading the scenery. The bar would not go past 0%...I installed the new CYYJ and notice the same problem with this new scenery. I have no problem when loading the neighbour YVR!I then reinstalled the previous vesion of CYYJ (with which I had no problem) and got the same issue!I finally realized that everything was working fine if I was loading another scenery before and than was moving to CYZF and CYYJ (older and newer). The problem is exactly what is described in this excellent website: http://www.adventure-unlimited.org/faultfi...php#Identifying under g3d.dll."Sometimes it is impossible to start at a particular airport - with this error. It seems this is Flight Simulator getting in a knot, rather than a physical problem. It can be resolved by going to another airport, and then loading the desired airport."Have you guys experienced the same problem? is there a way around? Thanks a lot, to you all.Ghiom

Does it mean I am the only one?Thanks...
I certainly had a lot of problems with an earlier version of CYYJ Victoria. The terrain error was resolved by removing some commercial terrain files, at the moment I can't remember whose mesh this was but I would suggest temporarily disabling all add-on North American mesh as an experiment. The comments on "It can be resolved by going to another airport, and then loading the desired airport." on my web site (thanks for the flattering words, by the way) were really meant to imply that you only had to do this once to get the system out of its knot. If this is a recurring issue for you it is more extreme than I have ever experienced.I haven't had time to look at the latest version of the CYYJ scenery yet, but I do remember that the existing version I am using has a seriously complex AFD file. It sizes out at 72MB! I'm not sure what it contains but AFX indicates that it has some data in there it can't handle, so if you open it in AFCAD or AFX and then save you will lose some data. But most of the content seems to be something of an obsession with making ground markings exactly like the real thing, achieving lots of things that Microsoft never intended it to do with little bits and pieces of marking all over the place. It is possible that an AFD file of this size is causing your Flight Simulator to struggle to handle it. Again, as an experiment, you might try disabling it and letting the default data apply. The airport will look all wrong and might even be at the wrong altitude, but for testing purposes it could prove a point.Just some ideas . . .John

Actually I thought I had the same problem with the new CYYJ. It appeared that it would not load (stopped at 0%). I then took a look at task manager and FS9 was cranking right along with CPU activity. I decided to walk away for SEVERAL minutes and when I returned, it was slowly loading. The scenery appears to be quite a frame-rate hog compared to the prior version (but I do have quite a few "optional" scenery active).I'm not sure I'll keep it do to the long wait for the loading to take place.gwillmot

Oh, that is good to know.On my side, the loading will stop at 0% after a few seconds and the message will appear. Waiting will not help!I am not using the latest AFCAD but the prrevious one...I agree with the previous comments, it could be a conflict with other files (mesh, coastlines...).RegardsGhiom
