TrackIR5 killing FS9 FPS

Featured Replies

Ok, so for a long time now I have been experiencing less than stellar performance in FS9 and I could not figure out why. For a while I thought it was my 3d Clouds but while I was waiting for the new monitor I did some playing with the 23 I had. (totally off topic but the Acer 27 inch at 2048*1152 is a beautiful monitor...So I usually leave FPS unlocked as I can almost always maintain the 60FPS limit of my VSync. In certain situations it felt like FS was really struggling though. I never use SHFT Z so I just figured it was some chop. I also noticed it was worse with TrackIR but attributed it to the "head shake" built into TIR. So yesterday I was just playing around at the new FSDT PHNL and was getting some really bad chop so I checked my FPS. EEK I was at 20FPS!!! So I played around for hours switching out clouds, lowering AA/AF from 16xs/16x to 8xs and 4x but nothing helped. Then I started looking at external factors. IE. TrackIR.Low and behold, this is what I found.FS9 with TrackIR not loaded: 60FPSFS9 with TrackIR loaded but not activated: 60FPSFS9 with TrackIR loaded and enabled: 20 FPS.Once I would pause TIR FPS would bounce back to 45 but would never rebound all the way to 60. Every time I enabled TIR it just tanked my FS9 performance. Right now I am doing my first flight without TIR at all and FPS have never dropped below 60. I popped over to the NaturalPoint forums and saw alot of other performance related posts with FSX so figured I would post here as well just in case anyone else was having the same issue. I am guessing it is to do with Vsync which I enable to avoid tearing but will have to experiment to be sure... I guess in theory limiting FPS to 60 with VSync disabled should be the same as enabling vsync. :( Cheers,-PaulPS... Did I notice this new 27 at 2048*1152 is beautiful :( I could see two of these side by side as my front windshield :(

Thanks for the suggestion... I didn't think about that but I do remember cranking the light filtering all the way up to max before the holidays to try and help with TIR going crazy due to light in the room... Never thought of that as performance impacting. What do you have yours set to if you don't mind me asking? Thanks again!-Paul

HelloI have it as low as I can without getting any background light showing up, I have a blackout blind on the window behind me that I pull down if I am flying during the day so its usually at 30Try also uninstalling the software and try a different USB port, on the M/B preferably not on a hub.I have also in the past used USBdeview to totally get rid of all USB stuff and let windows rediscover them.http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
