February 1, 201016 yr hi, i am thinking of buying a new graphic card. i have two choice cause of several reasons (budget, case fit etc) first: ati 4870 512 mb; i read before this card is very bad at fs9 aa and af .second: gts 250, this card worse than 4870 but, many people say nvdia better than ati at msfs.i am using 8800gt sonic. i am not happy with that card at fs2004 because of jaggies and poor performance. I used to run the ATi X1950GT then switched to a BFG GeForce 8800 GT OCX 512MB PCI-Ewith no problems at all and a steady 59 fps.But... Are you running nHancer first of all? http://www.nhancer.com/There are some great profiles available that will tune your card to maybe something you'd be happy with. Clarke Kruger - CYEG
February 1, 201016 yr You're not going to see a lot of improvement going from 8800 to 250. Try to get at least the 260 if your budget allows. And I am also biased toward nvidia. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
February 1, 201016 yr 8800GT user here too. Haven't run fs9 in over a year, but I do run FSX at medium/high settings with advanced addons at 30 fps +. I don't think your card is bad for fs9 at all. What are your other specs? CPU, RAM, OS? Many background processes running?I think you should look at modding the fs9.cfg file too. I vaguely remember that used to help me a lot.
February 1, 201016 yr I have a 4850 and it works well in FS9 and X. Running 1920 x 1200, 4aa, 16af. Get some minor shimmering but that's it.One thing I do is use mip-mapped DXT1 textures for my AI, and it handles them very well. Hard to tell they're DXT1.FPS depends on several factors so won't comment on that.Cheers
February 2, 201016 yr Author thanks for advises. i can't buy gtx260 because it won't fit my case.my pc sepecs are here:AMD X2 7750 2,7 Ghz. (can't be oc, because my mobo doesn't allow it) :( Gigabyte M61PME 2SPKingston 2 * 2 1066 DDR2 ramPalit 8800Gt Sonic 512 mbGlacial Power 550 Watt PSUi will upgrade the cpu to X4 925 or X4 945 when i find a used one.only games i play except msfs are ArmA 2 and Lockon. so i want my pc to handle these simulations. February 23, 201016 yr Hey, for me there is no mather what card u will buy for fs9.You will not be able to get more than 22-23fps in VC at major airport (LFPG by aerosoft). Just the sim will look nice, but no fps improvement.
February 23, 201016 yr AFAIK, the GTS 250 is a rebranded 9800 GTX so it should work well, the 4xxx series ATI cards have a problem with clouds(in FSX anyway), so I would avoid that one.have a look at this Wikipedia article and check the core config, as well as core shader and memory clocks with what will fit in your box and see if anything would work out better for you:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of...rocessing_unitsgood luck

April 3, 201016 yr Yes, either move it out of its place, or rename it...then FS9 will load a new default one when you start it with your new card in there. Then you can use your old back up to change your settings back in the new fs9.cfg. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
