February 3, 201016 yr :( I have long been one to remove the gear touchdown sounds on the 747 of the past (-400) as it does cause a brief stutter or sound stoppage upon activating the wheel touchdown sounds... common in the past, but still occurs even on a new I7 950 laptop with 6 GIG of ram and Windows Vista 64.... I thought for sure this common problem would end when using my new laptop and it has except on the pMDG 747 series... but I solved it by removing touchdown sounds... now however, the sound stutter occurs on the new 747-8! Even with the touchdown sounds gone and ground roll sounds gone as a test!Surely someone in the world has had this issue. It has been something I have been aware of for years, again, removing touchdown sounds can solve this and it has...except in the new -8.What is going on PMDG? Is your model doing something upon touchdown that will pause FSX for a micro-second each time? Can this be fixed or something??Peter Peter James / Former Lead Designer Flight Unlimited III / ATP Beechjet 400A Captain 7000+ hours total flying time / Sager NP9280 notebook / i7 950 3.07 / 6 Gig / GTX280M 1280x1200x32
February 4, 201016 yr Author :( may have solved this myself....trying "another" good soundpack I have used for another heavy jet over the years did work on the 747-8 with no touchdown sound problems... in fact, I can even have touchdown rumbles enabled again...and ground roll. I will miss the PMDG soundset as it is the best...but there is something in there weird that even a powerful i7 computer can not handle....hmmmmm ... still if PMDG can come up with something here that would be great, since it seems only sound related and not aircraft related Peter James / Former Lead Designer Flight Unlimited III / ATP Beechjet 400A Captain 7000+ hours total flying time / Sager NP9280 notebook / i7 950 3.07 / 6 Gig / GTX280M 1280x1200x32

I changed to another (dare I say better?) freeware set from the Avsim site and the problem went away.Iain Smith
February 4, 201016 yr I've had similar a issue in the past. I've dealt with it by defraging the hard drive.Ken Carlin ROG Maximus X Apex Z370 -- 8086 @ 5.3 / NB 5.0 -- GSkill @ 4133 c17-17-32~Cr1 1.42v -- EVGA 1080Ti 6393 -- ROG PG279Q 1440P 150hz -- Corsair H100i V2 --Samsung EVO 850(s) -- Windows7 Pro 64 --Corsair 750X Ken C
February 4, 201016 yr Commercial Member Never heard of this and I certainly don't see it myself - I also have a "powerful i7 computer" so I really don't think there's anything wrong with the plane here. All that's happening there is that it plays the touchdown sound - the panel is constantly playing sounds throughout the entire flight, so it's very odd that you only see it pause there.Which exact sound card/on-board chip are you using. People have noted issues with certain on-board chips. Make sure you have the latest drivers for whatever it is.You can also make sure that any antivirus or other security programs you might have running are excluding the FSX folder - if a real time scanner is checking that file right as its being accessed, this could also potentially cause that. February 5, 201016 yr Commercial Member Peter,I checked out the 748 sounds on my setup and I don't get a noticeable pause, none whatsoever. My system is a medium sized machine, nothing elegant like an i7 but runs FSX quite well. The other thing I do regularly (weekly) is defrag the HD that FSX is on, that makes a noticeable difference in framerate, scenery and aircraft texture loading. Perhaps this is why I'm not getting lags or pauses. My system has an onboard Realtek audio chip and from what I have read I think it was Ryan... Realtek among a few others is an ideal onboard chip for better performance. VIA and others have had problems. On the other hand, I am running XP32 Pro with SP3, none of the Vista junk and I have yet to upgrade to Win 7.Perhaps try defragging the HD and see if that makes a difference?Cheers, Jason Brown - Exterior Model Engineer,http://www.precisionmanuals.comSpecs: MSI Z97 Gaming 7 | Intel i7 4970K OC @ 4.6GHz | Gigabyte GTX970 G1 4GB | 16GB (2X8GB) G.Skill Trident | Corsair Air 540 White Case | Corsair AX750 750W PSU | 27" Samsung SyncMaster 275T+ | 27" Samsung S27D850 | 13" Wacom Cintiq | Windows 10 Professional x64
February 5, 201016 yr Never heard of this and I certainly don't see it myself -Ryan, the pause when selecting reverse thrust on the 737NG was well known. Des Braban, who has produced a lot of sound packages on the Avsim site, made a set specifically for the PMDG 737NG. In his readme he said "I've also re- configured the reverse thrust and sound to work properly with these aircraft,....."So what these guys are experiencing on other a/craft with different sounds could have a similar cause. A change of sound package may effect a cure.Iain Smith
February 5, 201016 yr Author :( Is this the REAL Jason Brown from YVR?????? If so, where have you been pal? It's me Peter ...... hope all is well!I defrag all the time.... and never run any anti-virus at all.... so no, but my problems still exists with any soundsets... plane pauses upon main wheel touchdown... even with no touchdown sound in the sound.cfg!
