Appeal for Boeing 314 Clipper

Featured Replies

Hi there. I want to make an appeal to any all freeware or payware developers out there to create a Boeing 314 clipper for FSX.There is a freeware one by Mike Stone that's been converted to work in FSX, but it doesn't have a VC and the panel is very basic.I already have some fantastic freeware vintage aircraft made by Jens Kristensen for FSX, and I hope the Boeing 314 is on his list of projects. If anyone else is interested in having a realistic FSX model of this aircraft then please chime in.Thanks a lot.Dave

Simulator: P3Dv6.1

System Specs: Intel i7 13700K CPU, MSI Mag Z790 Tomahawk Motherboard, 32GB DDR5 6000MHz RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Video Card, 3x 1TB Samsung 980 Pro M.2 2280 SSDs, Windows 11 Home OS

I don't know of any 314's, but A2A did a 377 you may be interested in:http://www.a2asimulations.com/377.html

Yeah, I've seen that plane and I'm probably going to get it soon. I've gotten into simulating vintage flights recently (used to do mostly modern jetliners) and I really wanted to do some old Pan Am flights using the flying boats from the 1930s and 1940s.There's a nice Martin 130 flying boat and a Short S.23/30 flying boat for FSX already available by Jens Kristensen; I'm just missing the venerable Boeing 314 Clipper. Maybe A2A simulations will do this in the future. Thanks a lot for your reply.Dave

  • 2 years later...

There have been a few attempts to tweak Mike Stone's B314 to FSX.

Bob Chicilo and D.L. Tarbox both have done some work on Mike's B314 for FSX.

But.....the aircraft sits very nose low/tail high on the water. Yes as Mr. Tarbox points out

it does level out once power is applied. I started with Mr. Tarbox's B314x and added Ken

Mitchell's panel. Alas to get the panel to work you must use Ken's replacement aircraft.cfg

file.

Here's what I have found so far.

The aircraft is VERY slow to load. When I click on one of the 2 textures I have installed

it can take 30 second before it comes up in the Free Flight window. I think this may actually

be caused by Ken's panel. Same when you end a flight. It can take 30 or more seconds to

"unload" the aircraft in FSX.

Years ago I tweaked the flight dynamics of Mike's B314 to reflect more closely the B314's

real world dynamics. I believe Mike used to just use an .air file from a default FS2004 aircraft

that closely matched what he was building. Don't get me wrong. I was the guy who put the

B314 bug in Mike's ear. I begged him to built one for us and I thanked him every time I flew it!

After weeks of tweaking the flight dynamics I had it quite close to what I had read about the

B314 flight handling. It was a struggle to get it into the air....just like the real thing you flew

very low until you burned off some fuel. I was very happy with the results. Unfortunately within

a few months I had a hard drive crash and lost the file.

So my question now is this. Why would the aircraft sit normally in FS2004 but nose low in FSX.

Why would Ken Mitchell's panel take so long to open and close in FSX?

Just one more thing. I also begged Ken Mitchell to make a panel for the B314. Ken really

out did himself. The panel was brilliant!

Thank you Mike and Ken but we really need a FSX version. :-)
