Some advice from REX developers, i hope they don't mind i posted this here:"TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=20Number of calculations to make on a mesh file for constructing the polygon model per frame. Is dependent on the LOD of the mesh file. Values are 18,19, 20 and 21. 21 is used for LOD 11. If set at 21 without LOD 11 mesh, jumping mountains will occur, see also TEF above. Most add-on mesh is LOD 9 nowadays of LOD 10, so 20 will do fine."

My Specification: I CAN RUN FSX IN MAX SETTINGS....i don't care about dell, bell, amd, intel, 60000 wats power supply or alien made graphic card....

Hi guys and many thanks for your continued input into what I thought may have become a "dead" thread. If I could just respond to a few of your posts/questions/theories;It would seem that at least SOME members are experiencing similar (same) behaviour when approaching mountain ranges. The few members who have experienced this all seem to agree that nothing they have so far tried has cured the problem. I am of the same opinion that after almost a month of testing various combinations of in game settings, .cfg settings, drivers, reinstalls etc etc this has to be something to do with hardware. If it was simply a setting problem then 1/ a lot more people would have witnessed it at some stage and 2/ those who report it would have come across a "fix" during their many hours (in my case in excess of 100hrs) testing. To those who have made suggestions for in game and .cfg settings, thanks. I do appreciate your input and I DO try every one of your suggestions again just to triple check I haven't missed anything. As for MipMaps slider to 4, MAX-VERTEX=20 etc.....all tried and NO difference at all to the original problem. Not only that but I have tried almost each and every setting at ALL their possible values with no change. The be absolutely clear the problem ONLY occurs in the following scenarios......When flying in mountainoues (not "hilly") areas where those mountains being rendered are "higher" than those currently displayed. Ie. If you were flying toward a mountain and others were coming into view "behind" it, you would not see the problem upon clearing the first and the others then come into view (they have already been rendered but are hidden behind others)Using "Soft Horizons" has much improved the problem and I suggest anyone with similar problems download this free on add which also gives a much more realistic "hazy" horizon thus hiding the mountains as they as rendered. However, at dawn or dusk the "Soft Horizons" does not produce a visible haze layer and thus the problem is once again evident.I don't wish to stoke anybodies fires but I do think that the reason some people don't see this behaviour is because they have various met/terrain add ons or simply don't fly in the regions where this is evident at the time of day it is most evident. IF I could test 100 different systems with absolutely NO add-ons I wonder if we'd see similar behaviour as posted in my video? I will maybe try to get some different examples (and not so zoomed in) and post them on YouTube too.Like I say, I really do appreciate everybody's input and suggestions and I don't mean to cause arguement or friction.....just good discussion and hopefully, the secret cure!!

Hello,Made a test in the "ideal" conditions for the anomaly ...For better viewing I suggest to dowload it (better resolution)http://www.4shared.com/file/239924837/88f3.../Mountains.htmlThis is the movie (in streaming)http://www.4shared.com/file/239926558/ecc7.../Mountains.htmlIt's indeed a very tiny "moving horizon" (barely perceptible) when view to the sun .. but really small when compare with OP video ..Regards.bye.gifGus.

Thanks Gus for putting that together but I think people are still getting confused as to the problem....It is NOT neccesarily when you are flying in a mountain range or close to one.....it is when you APPROACH a mountain range from a flat area and the mountains appear on the horizon. If you use my orignal example of flying out of KSEA at dawn and heading between North and Eat. As the mountain range in the distance "grows" or "appears" on the horizon this is where the wobbling is evident....almost as if FS keeps changing it's mind as to whether there should be sky or mountain there. After about 30 secs, FS makes it's mind up and the mountains appear ok until the next range is rendered.

stranex,Thats how FS9 handle things, i don't know for FSX. Thats also happen with the clouds, and thats why Jim from HIFI sim, suggest to limit visibility to 30 or 29 miles. First because of the horizon line, second is that problem, vibrating/boiling horizon, when FS need to load all those meshes, clouds, textures... It's not "easy" to load about 150 square kilometers of textures, 3d objects and stuff, and FS must cope with that somehow.Unlimited visibility...it's pretty much unrealistic to put FS or AS, if you use it, to unlimited. I mean, take off from Manchester and hope you can see Liverpool right away...no chance.

Thanks, that also adds to those numbers here who agree this is just "as it is" and not a one off case.Of course, if I know this can't be "fixed" I'll happily invest in some decent add ons, active sky and the like so I can reduce the effect to a minimum. Just didn't want to do that if I knew I was throwing worse money over bad!I'm still surprised there is VERY little about this behaviour on any of the forums though. One would have thought it would have been mentioned somewhere but I can only find 2 or 3 mentions of it in total and there's never much of a response. Also, those members who state they've NEVER seen the effect cannot be lying....maybe it's just that've never flown in mountainous regions, without AS or the like in dusk/dawn conditions? As firin flight via, we can sit and argue that all day but it certainly IS possible to see more than 60nm, especially at altitude when above ant inversion/haze. Ok, you may not be able to see the ground detail but you can certainly see distant mountain peaks and THAT is what we're specifically speaking about here...

Hello,My last message and last demo on the subject :)A little shacking of far summits (at sunset) is visible for a very short time ...Download it there (7MB) Helico .. around Kathmandu-Nepalhttp://www.4shared.com/file/240339368/98a2...ins-Test-2.htmlBTW .. no need of special addon's for overturn the horizon glitch ... playing with weather and visibility will be enough. But if you think a addon is needed .. methink FSUIPC payware version can help for accurate visibility set Regards.bye.gifGus.

stranex- I've tried now 3 times with various settings to duplicate your KSEA /Mt Ranier experiment. Neither here, nor in many hours flying mountain terrain on Vancouver Island and the BC Coastal montains, have I experienced your "distant mountain bobble" problem.I use UT Can/AK & USA plus Ground Environment. In addition I have addon mesh for VI and the mainland BC coast mountains. I do not have Active Sky.Perhaps it's just my ancient AMD XP2200 w GeForce 5200 GPUs & triple views that does the trick!Since it is apparently not in the FS software, it must be either a hardware anomaly or a combination of hdwe & software add ons..Regards Alex Reid
