Just tried the TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR tweaks with absolutley no difference in what I'm seeingMad....I currently don't have FS Genesis installed so just tried bringing this down to 19 with no effect either.Do you all think is something to do with my settings or could something hardware related be at play?

Could you attach some picture? I mean, we can't see shimmering on it, but sometimes it can help much.

My Specification: I CAN RUN FSX IN MAX SETTINGS....i don't care about dell, bell, amd, intel, 60000 wats power supply or alien made graphic card....

He posted a video of it...shows is clearly.Like the rest, I've never seen it like that in fs9...not sure what to suggest besides trying a fresh install and see if that helps. If not, you can be sure its hardware.

Thanks Red, like you say hopefully the vid speaks volumes but if you need pics for a particular reason then I'll happily provide.I have tried 4/5 fresh installs (including a couple of completely fresh windows installs) so I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue, only thing is where do I start!??The GTX260 performs very well in 3D Mark but I guess that's not neccesarily a test of rendering in FS9? Likewise, I have no errors from memory or GPU during various benchmark and load tests. Correct me if I'm wrong (I normally am!) but this seems to purely be a "rendering" issue to do with certain types of scenery (ie mountains) as I have absolutley no problems with the rest of the graphics in either FS9 or FSX. Anyone hazard a guess as to what is more likely to be causing this then....GPU, CPU, RAM, MOBO etc? I would ask seperately in the hardware forum but am hoping most there read this anyway?

For anyone following this thread I've just tried a new graphics card a friend gave me (still a GTX260 but different manufacturer and not overclocked) and the problem still persists. Memtest and prime95 run with absolutely no errors even when overclocking the CPU to 3.9Ghz so not sure what to try next....maybe try and get my hands on another monitor!

I don't want to be discouraging, but I have always had this problem and eventually, after nothing I did fixed it, just decided that I'd have to learn to live with it. Unfortunately, after all these years I STILL haven't managed to turn a blind eye to it - it's very irritating (of course the eye is naturally drawn to anything blinking or flashing) and it does spoil flights near mountainous areas. I think it is something to do with the way FS9 works (or doesn't work!) when trying to draw distant elevated terrain - the wobbling is caused by FS9 not being able to decide whether the area in question should be drawn as land or sky (I think you worked that out by now!).I'll keep an eye on this thread, because if anyone manages to present a solution, I too shall be really, REALLY pleased!Martin :-)

Gus,Appreciate your input but as stated previously, this is NOT a view (or draw) distance problem. The EXACT SAME behaviour is exhibited whatever the vis/view distance.....it just occurs when the mountain eventually appear into view....that can be at 150nm range or at 10nm range....no difference except is obviously more noticeable at 10nm!Interesting to hear now that some members have experienced similar.....is this indeed just the way FS9 is and some people don't notice it as much due to different wx/active sky/not flying in mountainous regions etc or, is it a hardware/setting related problem that only some of us see? I'm starting to think maybe the former?

Did you try, maybe, in cfg under GRAPHIC i think, to put from default AUTO_LOD=0, to 1. I read that someone change that, and it help. You can try it to. And try also to put in FS option's mip map level to 4.

I am pretty sure it's not hardware related, as I have had FS9 on three different machines over the past few years (all with very different hardware specs, (ATI v. NVidia, Intel v. AMD etc.) and have never not had this jelly-like wobbling approaching mountains. In fact, clouds can act in a similar way, and so does the horizon (out at sea, where it is visible) if you are high enough up (e.g. Concorde at 60,000'). Martin

Martin- to the contrary, I have never seen such "wobbling" on my 6 yr old machine. I fly mountains regularly 2000-10,000' and have also tried the OP's Seattle experiment. So it's NEITHER hardware nor software generated on my sys. I run only FS9 1.0 - is that possibly an explanation? My GPUs are GeForce FX5200s- AGP & PCI - not sure what driver version- a tech updated it about 3 years ago when increasing my RAM to 2.0 GBs.Have also never seen clouds do that "jelly wobble".Alex Reid

Hello,I just reread carefully all the messages above ....I just take note of this particular stance from the OP in his first message :

I did find the following link which seems to talk about the same thing but I'm amazed that if it's a common "problem" it's not talked about more? And no, I don't just want to limit my flying to flat terrains!
Emphasize on the IF :)Methink it's NOT a "common problem"I suggest the OP to launch here a poll about this problem. My answer will be "no" as I never encountered such problem on 3 completely different machines ... and I fly regulary in mountainous aeras. It's not telling the problem "DON'T EXIST" but telling this problem is encountered by a minority of FS2004 users.Don't ask me why some users have this problem ... I have not (yet ....) the answer. In this video .. it's some mountains in background .. nothing strange there ..http://www.simteevee.com/watch.php?mdid=13...e+bear+is+back+!Regards.bye.gifGus.

Interesting. You must be right of course, given what you say, that this is a problem that only some users experience. (Given that the forum is not full of threads asking for cures to the problem, that was to be expected I suppose!). As I say though, (unless my memory deceives me, which is not impossible of course) it's a problem I have always had. Do you still not get this flickering change of texture between mountain top and sky if you set visibility limit to maximum and in clear weather - as a test: I don't fly with those settings either!? (It only happens as the mountain ranges come into view or are still distant. When you get closer, FS9 seems to make its mind up as to what the texture should be and the wobble stops. Certainly flying over mountain ranges is fine). If not, then I am totally mystified. My display settings (I have experimented with them over the years) are currently as recommended by FS Genesis as Holger S. - I am pretty sure that there's nothing in the fs9.cfg file that would cause this. In any case, I have on occasion deleted that file and let FS9 rebuild it, but that never solved the 'mountain wobble' effect. Not sure where we go from here on this then...Martin :(

Just watched the video Gus. There are no mountains there that would cause the wobble on my PC. Rounded hills like that never cause a problem. It's only when there are sharp changes of elevation in distant terrain - like approaching the Himalayas, or the Rockies, for instance, that the dreaded 'jelly effect' is apparent.Martin
