PMDG and AI aircraft packages

Featured Replies

Hi All,A bit of a general question this but I would rather get opinions from this forum.I run the 747X, J41 now also the 747-8 in FSX. I have a fairly high end PC which runs FSX pretty smoothly in general. I can still manage anything around 25-40 FPS at airports with these acft with most sliders on max and using fairly decent add on scenery, but with about 25% on traffic. Up at altitude, frame rates are a fair amount higher. I am now keen to purchase a AI traffic package and install to the sim. I am considering Just Flights Traffic X.This leads to my question -1. What packages are best/recommened by those operating these aircraft?2. What is the frame rate hit if this is installed - particuarly when running any of the PMDG aircraft? Many thanks,

GregH

Hi Greg, The answer to number two is pretty hard for anyone to really answer since again that is system specific, but having own them all I will say my opinion. My favorite is UT2 (Ultimate Traffic 2). They use real world routes and it has the best liveries. Their FPS hit isn't bad considering the quality of the textures. The new SP1 gives a lot more options now to regulate how it runs on your system and you can tune it many different ways for performanc.Traffic X would be my second choice since I can deal with the fps hit since I still want good quality textures.MyTraffic 2010 is great on FPS but then again I think the quality of their textures are pretty low. With all of them of course, it is a balance of FPS vs quality and depends on your system and tastes. One thing about UT2 is uses simmconnect, so any menu action at all will reset your traffic. This might not be a big deal but want to mention it. They also will not be fixing this since it is a simmconnect issue and many of their options depend on what they can do with it.I started a post a long time ago that has some good user comments on this. It is in this section somewhere and is called "What addons do you have?" or something simalar.Hope this helps,

Thanks Dan,I also looked at UT2 - only thing that pushed me away was the size of the download - a whopping 1.6GB vs Traffic X at about 600Mb- still very large but [hopefully] do-able on our not so fast internet connections here. Also agree that textures must be good. Will do a search on that post you mention.

I bought UT2 yesterday - it's very FPS friendly. There is some loss but I'm only seeing maybe 5 or so vs. without traffic.

I suffered through the download and also got the CD from them for insurance. I like that I can go into the routes say to KIAH and put them all on STAR routes. I notice it takes forever for FSX to launch but once running the traffic doesn't bother my performance in a noticeable degree.
