ILS not working in 700-series

Featured Replies

Suddenly the ILS is not working in my 700-series?I have correct frequency and course set, but it does not display or pickup LOC or glideslope!I get the marker sound, but no ILS on PFD.This has happenend on two different airports in two different countries, so no AFCAD problem. Please help!Oldboy

I had a similar problem recently with the 747-400. The problem was fixed by using HDG SEL to manually divert the plan slightly to the left or right. It appeared the STAR I used did not line me up perfectly with the runway. Could this be a problem you might be encountering?

All markers use the same carrier freq, only the AM modulation is different. The correct frequency, is that the real world correct or the MSFS correct? They are often different, a lot more often that you'd expect because they designed a simulation with very difficult to update data.

One caution indirect to this thread. In FS all LLZs by default have a back-course transmitter enabled. If you have the same frequency at both ends of an FS runway until you are at about 2 degrees of centerline you could be pulling in the incorrect LLZ/GS. Always check the ID on the PFD.Sometimes you get vectored to an intercept at an altitude and distance where the ILS will not be active yet. If there is a VOR in the airport area I'll tune it in on NAV2 for DME and an indication of when to turn inbound. This usually gets me close enough to where the LLZ/GS comes alive. If you are using any AIRAC supplied data application for tuning information, there is always the possibility that the frequency stated could not match the scenery frequencies for NAVAIDS. You can use AFCAD to preflight your possible ILS frequencies. This can take some time though as each time you run it it digests your scenery before you can access the airport scenery layers. A more efficient way is to get a free utility from Peter Dowson that does not require FSUIPC. Download makerwys.exe version 4.41 or later from:http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.htmlInstall it in your FS folder. Run it directly the first time and anytime you modify scenery. It will create a file called r5.csv. Read that file with a text editor. The readme that came with the download explains the fields in each row. Search for the ICAO and then each runway will be listed with an added number indicating left (1), right(2), or center (0). A few columns down will be the LLZ frequency with characters attached indicating if a GS is present.Since you only need to run this after a scenery change, it is faster to load this file into Notepad, search for the ICAO, and get the runway frequencies established in the scenery order as seen by FS.For viewing only with autosave off if not an RC user you could load it in Excel. Excel saves will corrupt the fields for purposes of applications such as RC that use this for building their airport database. When released RC5 users will be able to get this information directly in RC for all runways at each airport preflight.
