If you want to know what files a process tries to access and what stuff it does with DirectX, hooking is the way to go. And easyhook seems a reliable means of adding hooks to any process such as Flight Simulator. There is a similar product from Microsoft called detours, but it can't be used in non-free software (not an issue so far) and it only works with 32 bit applications (like Flight Simulator is fortunately). It may not be compatible with LGPL/GPL code. And as soon as you go commercial, they want $10000 per application. Not quite the hobbyist's price point.I am currently investigating whether or not to prefer Microsoft's detours over EasyHook.Tileproxy beta 8 had a custom implementation of hooking which proved to be quite unreliable and triggered Data Execution Prevention a lot. So most of the time I had to recommend turning it off. But it was a good learning experience regarding how to hook DirectX APIs. Without my previous work I wouldn't dare to attempt what I am trying now.

Hi Christian,I've been using with the Norwegian mapping Service with TileProxy (webatlas.no). When you use it as a normal internet map service, I notice that they have the ability to add color to the roofs of all the buildings at a certain LOD. Here is the link to the map service Norwegian WebAtlas Map ServiceIt would be great if somehow you could add a pseudo-3D effect using the rectilinear shape of buildings at a high LOD. It would be particularly helpful when landing at an airport to give the pilot some sense of depth-of-field (i.e all the building now appear flat on the ground when you are close to the ground, except for the few autogen airport and city buildings). Here is a photo of the Norwegian map service (with and without the colored building roofs):Norwegian WebAtlas without colored roofsNorwegian WebAtlas with colored roofsThanks for considering this additional feature...

You wouldn't believe what the FlightGear guys have been doing recently.

ACES already use shader code for their terrain (mostly to do the water effects and reflections) - and adding displacement mapping to it would require replacing the existing shaders with extended versions.Christian

Most of the buildings are without textures and they are having a very rare form from nearby. However when flying fast and higher it looks great.

Thank you so much, Christian! I can't wait for a new version of TileProxy! I've been using it ever since I first installed and now I can't fly without it.Do you accept donations? I would be more than happy to donate money to encourage you to keep TileProxy alive! Some requests: 1) It would be great if it had a "scenery creator" tool to get what you have inside the cache to build a static scenery on FS. If you fly the same area everytime, we could do it without needing to start TileProxy everytime and having to wait ages for the "scenery creation" to complete.2) This "scenery creator" could also come with an option to download a whole city (with specific zoom levels as you like) without having to start FS to fly in circles at a slow speed.3) TileProxy could have more presets of configuration for the users with super computers. If RAM or video card memory isn't a problem, how can you get the most from TileProxy?Anyway, keep up the AMAZING work! TP is the best add-on EVER and you do it FOR FREE!!! You should get rewarded... ;)Cheers!

It's still in the planning stage at this time. *sigh*From first working prototype to first public release of Tileproxy it took about 6 months. I am not even at the prototype stage yet ;-(
