March 10, 201016 yr What planes do the USPS and Canada Post use to deliver airmail? If they use outside contracters, who are they and what planes do they use?
March 11, 201016 yr Airmail is typically delivered in the spacious bellies of your typical airliner. Surprisingly enough, airlines make a good deal of money from cargo - postal cargo included. Unless you're in the backwoods of Alaska or the Northwest Territories (and like terrain), mail is tagging along on a passenger flight as it works its way to its destination! There are bush pilots who fly mail around in the hinterlands, usually flying STOL-capable single engine planes and good rough-and-tumble airplanes built for such conditions. -Greg
March 11, 201016 yr USPS has contracted with Fedex for quite a while. Don't know what proportion of mail goes with them though.scott s..
March 13, 201016 yr I think American does some of it, too. At least, they said it in the documentary about American Airlines: A Week in the Life, anyway. Captain Kevin Air Kevin 124 heavy, wind calm, runway 4 left, cleared for take-off. Live streams of my flights here.
