Freezing during Long Haul Flights

Featured Replies

I have had bad freeze problems but it stopped after I installed uiautomationcore.dll. BUT, after I installed Flight 1 Ultimate Traffic 2, There have been some freeze up problems. I did a flight with the PMDG 747-400 from Frankfurt to San Francisco, and after 11 hours I was on final approach when it frooze, a "fatal error" box popped up and and rebooted FSX. I was so ######! I wonder if certain add-ons will cause freeze up problems?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Maurice, I don't think that REX's weather engine not connecting, was/is causing the freeze/hang syndrome. Many people have experienced 'problems' with REX2's weather engine not fully developing the cloudscape as per the METAR's. I have been using my copy of A.S. 6.5 since last July with great results and no crashes, etc.I'm glad that what things you decided to act upon has given good results. I do suggest strongly though...that when you fly three or more flights from lift-off, down to the 'numbers' over two or so hours in-flight time...defrag your system, and then create an IMAGE BACKUP asap. If therefore, something craps out in the future, you can be assured of bringing back an entire system image that has FSX in a clean unadulterated crash/hang-free state once more. This is so important to do!Have fun.Mitch

No. I haven't placed the Vista uiautomationcore.dll in my FSX folder. I'll try that. I also updated my RealTek High Definition Sound Driver last night which helped Mitch. Another thing, I do not use fsPasengersX, and the type of freeze is what Mitch described. "...the animation on screen stopped with the sound bytes playing." Thanks for the help, and I'll try to fly another flight from KJFK to KLAS in about an hour. I'll tell you guys if the freezing stopped. Maurice Neal
Hi Maurice. Don't know if this will help. Had the same issue;FSX locked out but engine sounds still running. This occurred when I did one too many mouse clicks on my FSC9 running alongside in windowed mode.Could not get back into FSX so closed it.EventVwr log revealed nothing.Luckily I had set auto-saves in my registered FSUIPC,and thus was able to pick up the flight. And I have all Nick's tips installed too.Weird behaviour to say the least

I've had the random freeze with sounds still playing since just about day one. It got so annoying that I haven't touched FSX in well over a year! But with the 737NG getting close I've started to get interested again. If you look in the Crash To Desktop (CTD) Forum, topic "FSX Freezes randomly" towards the bottom of the 4th page there is a link to an MS hot fix that may solve the problem. I haven't tried it yet but it will be first on my list. John
