Got a C2D E8600 (headed for a 4 GHz OC) and a superclocked edition of GTX285 1GB.Thanks for the input, sir.

A Core 2 Duo won't be bottlenecked by dual-channel DDR3 1333. Even a Core 2 Quad with a serious overclock won't.

Yeah, I agree. I have new hardware builds on the brain...RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

I could try to OC the RAM then, have the coolers for it.Then what about the amount of RAM, anyone had improvements by going from say 4 to 6 GB?!

Increasing RAM beyond 4GB has no impact on MSFS performance, to my knowledge. I suppose with enough add-ons including some super high resolution terrain mesh scenery you could probably get close though.

Thanks, Tech, I

8Gb of DDR3 8-8-8-24 1600Mhz Corsair Dominator Ram with the Ram cooler on top of it. Thats max ram on my motherboard to eliminate all doubt if I might of needed more ram. :(

Correct, but when you add lots of aftermarket scenery and mesh and you crank everything up I have used more than 4 gigs. I also noticed that increased the LOD radius in the config beyond 4.5 has an adverse impact on my ram usage. I looked at taskmgr the other day and saw 5.2 gigs of usage. I imagine some of it could have been background stuff at the OS level.

You should be aware that the taskmanager is in no way a real depiction of what FSX uses. You have to use Process Explorer with the column set to Virtual Size, it will give you the right memory usage FSX is taking. And be aware that FSX *cannot* use more than 4gigs. It will crash if you push it (through LOD radius for example).

Is it safe to say, though, that FSX **could** use the full 4 GB of RAM if it was available; hence, it makes sense, if building a new system, to have more than 4 GB RAM to give FSX a full 4 and still have memory available for the OS and other applications that support FSX (e.g. REX)?Scott

Correct: optimal RAM size for FSX is 6GB on the triple channel system (i7) and 8GB on the dual channel system (i5 and SB)
