Feelthere Airbus 320 sometimes behaving strangely

Featured Replies

Hello,Once in every three or four flights with the Wilco/Feelthere A320 (version 3c) I encounter this strange incident: During a perfectly normal descent (2000 ft/min, engines idle), typically around FL 10, the TOGA lock suddenly engages and the aircraft starts a steep climb. After taking manual control (a/t and ap off) and moving the joystick throttle lever back and forth a few times, the situation returns to normal. The whole incident lasts only a few seconds, but is nonetheless very annoying, as you can imagine. I wonder whether any one else has come across this incident and would be grateful for any ideas as to what may cause it.(System: AMD Athlon 64 3200+, NVidia 7900 GS, 2 GB RAM, Windows XP SP3)Thanks and kind regards,Ren

Hi Rene, i have had this problem, do have this problem but have not found a fix for this. I am convinced it has something to do with Active sky, not sure if you are using this. I say this from the searches i have done and from what i have read here on the forums but as to date there does'nt seem to be a fix. Sorry this has'nt been much help to the problem, but, you are not alone with this.Chris
Thanks for your quick reply Chris. I do indeed use Active Sky 6.5. Guess we have to live with it then....Ren

Do you have Engine Anti Ice switched on? The real A320 should have this on when descending at idle thrust, to prevent the engine flaming out; when it is on, the engine idle thrust is higher than normal to reduce the possibility of a flame out from ice or water ingestion. If this setting is not selected, weird things can happen with the A320's systems if it detects a problem, for example the engines going to a higher thrust setting to prevent a flame out.Not sure if this is something the Wilco Airbus emulates, so this is more of a suggestion of something to investigate rather than a definite solution for your problem.Al

If you're using ASE, make sure you have the "smooth pressure changes" option checked in the FSUIPC misc tab. It appears ASE has a nasty bug that's injecting bad low ambient pressure data into the sim.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

Hey bob, i have this option checked but its still the same, as far as i know its always been checked,Cheers

Thanks for your input guys. @ Alan: Switching on Pitot heat and engine anti-ice is part of my standard pre-flight preparation. @ Bob: I didn't have the pressure smoothing checked; I'll certainly try the effect of ticking this box in FSUIPC, but from Chris' post it seems that this doesn't cure the problem. @ Chris: Now that we suspect Active Sky, how about playing a bit with its settings (options)? Just a thought :( .Have a nice weekend.Ren

Rene The only thing I can think of is your A320 has hit A/Floor i.e the min speed the aircraft will allow before stalling. The aircraft will revert to toga/lock i.e max thrust. What is your air speed when you encounter this problem ?

Hi Speedbird,It's a logical thought, but I'm convinced that A/Floor (as a normal Airbus reaction to a stall threat) doesn't play a role here. When I start a descent I dial 280 kts IAS, then 240 kts approaching FL100. With a descent rate of about 2000 ft/min the airspeed remains above 270 kts until level-off at a lower altitude. Both airspeed and angle of attack in this phase of the flight should not call for A/Floor to engage.Regards,Ren

Uuum well it can't be that then. Sometimes this package carries over residue information from one flight to another. An unfortunate quirk sadly. Although I have not come across this particular problem I sometimes find that after landing and parking up I perform a full shut down that often clears a few bugs I have previously encountered. Another albeit tenuous idea I have (which I can't check as I am work), I think there are speed settings on the perf page on the FMGS that relates to descent and landing modes ? I will check this when I get home but in the meantime it might be worth lookin into.
