April 1, 201016 yr I am new to this forum but not to MS Flight Sim. I have been flying with MS Flight Sim goiing back to FS98. I am currently using FSX. I have run Flight Sim on several different computers over the years. Trying to get maximum performance out of FSX SP2 I decided to build a new computer specifically to run it. It has been a nightmare. My new computer's configuration is:Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard - BIOS Update F9Intel i7 920 processor - No Overclock6GB Corsair dominator PC3-12800 1600mhz DDR3 core i7 memorySapphire Radeon HD 5770 1GB DDR5 graphics cardCoolermaster HAF 922 caseCoolermaster silent pro 1000W power supplyI tried first to run FSX under Win 7 64bit. The program installed correctly and ran. With no add-ons, when I start a flight it will run for a short time and then I get a black screen and the computer freezes. Sound continues for a short time after freeze then turns to a blatting continuous sound. Only way to recover is to reboot the computer, keyboard not responsive.I searched several FS forums online and found others had experianced the balck screen freeze when running in Win7 64bit so I wiped the hard drive aand installed WinXP SP3 then FSX, SP1 and SP2. When I run FSX I get the same black screen freezing that I got in Win7 64 bit. I have tried all the tweaks suggested by various forums and nothing works. I have reduced all the settings in FSX to bare minimums and still get the same result. Could it be the graphics card?Does anyone have any suggestions?
April 1, 201016 yr Could be a driver issue.Have you done any stress testing with OCCT, Prime95 or Linx? If you are running a stock CPU cooler then I recommend that you do not run any of these programs because they will stress your CPU to the max.The PC is locking up for some reason, strange that you never get a BSOD, you just lock up. Will the PC lock up when you run other programs or just FSX? Do you have another program that you can run that will stress the CPU and GPU like FSX does.Actually I just though of something, it maybe a heat issue. Download RealTemp and see what your core temps and GPU temps look like, mainly your core temps.http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/RealTemp/1231762885/1Rod

Look for it under the Bufferzones=0 thread. You have to make a couple changes in your shaders. It worked just fine for me.Stephen
April 2, 201016 yr Well Chas,I hope we can help you but welcome to the AVSIM forums anyway. Bojote has a fix for that problem. Look for it under the Bufferzones=0 thread. You have to make a couple changes in your shaders. It worked just fine for me.StephenStephen,1.His problem (above) is not related in the least to that thread, he has a real hardware problem, He is using a vanilla FSX setup and it BS in Win7 and WInXP, As many have already reported I have not yet Black Screened in FSX-XP64 and that is with tons of add-ons and max IQ settings. Since he is BS in XP with a stock FSX setup it pretty much rules out many things unrelated.2.You often seem to recommend things in one thread and then go on to report in other threads that you still have issues (Hello?) which is a little strange, and then to offer a so called "fix" with out mentioning that it breaks backward compatibility with older add-ons doesn't really help. It also doesnt help when we know that just lowering other settings acomplishes the same thing without breaking the FSX graphics engine somewhere down the line as suggested by "changing the shaders". Bojote seems to suffer the same, recomending things in one thread and then reveals in a different thread that it didn't work with certain scenery and so now he has disabled said scenery in a nother thread without reporting it in the main thread.Seems a lot of you guys that resort to constantly changing your story should either learn to do more thorough testing and report in a more objective manner or just give it a rest.
April 3, 201016 yr Author It looks like Shockware is right. I pulled the HD5770 ATI card and replaced it with a EVGA Geforce 9800GT and now I can run FSX without crashes in Win 7 64 bit. I have made no tweaks to anything but I think I will get nHancer and follow NickN's tweaking recommendations so I can increase the scenery details.Has anyone tried the latest Nvidia 197.13 drivers? I hate to change anything since FSX is working now and that is what I built this new computer specifically for. Thanks To All,Chas

April 5, 201016 yr Personally (any many others agree), best drivers for fs are the 182.50.Man, that's way back. I hate to resort to such an old driver. The 197.xx have come a long way for frame rate, even in FSX and the other mods mentioned here and there. (BufferPools = 0 for instance).

(BufferPools = 0 for instance).Your mileage may vary.I get best picture and most steady fps with 182.5 drivers in fs9. Other more modern games...I can't tell any difference in performance between 182.5 drivers and new ones. :( - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
