Changing Camera Distance in Spot View

Featured Replies

I want to pull the camera closer to the plane in the default spot and locked spot view, because right now if I want to get a "normal" view of the exterior of the plane I have to zoom in very close which makes the scenery a zoomed-in blurry mess.To be clear I'm talking about the distance between the camera and plane, not the zoom level that I want to change.I've checked the cameras.cfg file, but didn't see any distance values, plus that would effect all planes, and I just have this problem with one particular plane. Is there a value in one of the config files for the specific plane that I can change?Appreciate it.

My FSX box is in the Computer Hospital for a few days, so I can't check anything for you BUT the answer is essentially NO.I remember experimentally adjusting wing length (based on something someone reported, perhaps) and I think it did affect the initial view distance... but more likely that the view distance is derived from something like parking space size and that might be in the .air file. I've seen a few aircraft over the years that had very peculiar initial view distances, so it's not unheard of.Anyway, why not just move the camera away from/toward the aircraft? I don't remember the original camera definitions ( mine have all be heavily edited) but the default movement speed is something like .25 meters per second unless specified in the camera definition. Most of them are rather frustratingly slow.I have my outside camera movements set for 5 to 10 meters a second using the XyzRate parameter... which may not be in any default camera definition. Adjust to your preference:XyzAdjust = TRUEXyzRate = 5 // or 10 or even 20... I like to get the FixedView way out there quickly so I use the higher value there. The 'funny' thing is that view distances are saved in the .flt files but seemingly ignored in the case of the spot and locked spot. The Control+ "plus"/"minus" used for the chase distance, as they call it, could be mapped to a single key perhaps if you wanted - or to joystick buttons I suppose; the two-key combination has just never been a bother to me...Assignments show up under "Chase distance" or something like that in the settings\controls\assignments list.Loydquick PS... the maximum view distance (per the SDK) is 500 meters for the outside/aircraft cameras.

Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro

This is something that FS9 did wonderfully, but was taken away in FSX. You could, if I recall, use your mouse wheel while holding down the Ctrl key, and have the plane only zoom, while the background stayed where it was. I miss this feature, disabled in FSX, and would love to know how to fix it. Maybe a look at fs9.cfg or a camera.cfg in FS9 if there was one, to compare against FSX might be useful.Noel

There is a utility program available at FS-Developer that will allow you to changed the embedded "model radius" in the .mdl file. It is this number that is used to calculate the spot view's camera position.http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=RADItor
