Updating FS Internal Nav Data?

Featured Replies

Is it possible to do this? I remember a few years ago I found a site that provided just that for FS9, but I don't seem to have it in my favorites anymore. FSX's nav database is old now and it's getting somewhat difficult to practice some approaches, mainly GPS.On an unrelated note, I can't figure out how to use the search function on these forums very well. I tried doing a search of "Carenado Seneca" and I get 30 pages of results for all kinds of stuff, can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!Jeff

No, not really. The file you refer to didn't actually update the nav data, but simply fooled the gps into thinking it did.For perhaps the thousandth time, nav data in FS is scattered among thousands of files, and is not really amenable to being updated.

Like Bill says the actual Navaids such as VOR's and NDB's are somewhat hard to move in both FS9 and FSX. However in the ADE9X Airport Design Editor Tool we spent the last 2 years designing a one of the kind Approach Mode Editor so you can update all your approaches to the most current in use today.ADE9X will delete all the old approaches including the ILS and allow you to transpose any new approach plate back into FS9/FSX Airport Database of Navaids. This is not a temp type GPS added approach but approaches that are compiled as per the XML SDK and are permanent. Once the approaches are added back into the database ATC will honor and say the correct approach per weather conditions ADE9X writes all the priority order approaches as follows and what FSX/FS9 is based on ILS (instrument landing system) <<<<<<======== Non-weather relatedLOC (localizer) <<<<<<======== From here down are all weather related approachesB/C (back course)LDA (localizer directional aid)SDF (simplified directional facility)RNAV (area navigation type approach)RNAV (Plus letter approaches)GPS (Global Positioning System type approach)VORDME (very high frequency omnidirectional range with Distance Measuring Equipment type approach)VOR (same as above without DME)NDBDME (nondirectional beacon with DME type approach)NDB (same as above without DME)IGS (Instrument guidance system) not used in FS9/FSX but we offset a ILS as much as 90 degrees and make it appear to be a IGSRW (runway visual)Once the new approaches are added back into the database then you can add all the transitions with holding patterns and DME Arcs to the IAF. ADE9X also adds all new commissioned VOR's NDB's Terminal_Waypoints, Terminal_NDB's and Markers when needed.jim

Thank you, Jim. As should be patently obvious, while it is possible to update a specific airport's approaches, this a rather substantial amount of effort, and is most certainly not "automatic," or a "push button" operation... :( ...and, there's a great deal more navdata in the sim that is not easily accessed for updating, even with ADE9X.It would have been nice had ACES been allowed to ditch the legacy scheme and instead develop a single database using their Access Database format, but if wishes were fishes... :(
