April 9, 201016 yr There's less support issues with FS9 these days. I for one spend more time flying the sim than tweaking or surfing these forums.Acknowledged, but I am sure that there are many like me who read the forums not only for tweaking or assistance, but just to see what's new and being talked about. I stopped any significant tweaking a long while ago but still visit the forums on a very regular basis to see what's new and exciting. In fact, I visit the forums *far* more than the AVSIM front page... same goes for the other flight sim sites - their front page is always skipped in lieu of the forums.Currently (as of this writing), there are 17 people viewing the FS2004 forum, and 64 viewing the FSX forum. This may be people seeking help with FSX, or those like me just looking in, or people with FS2004 looking to see what is happening in the FSX world. It certainly isn't a definitive indicator of sim preference... but there is something to be said about it when the difference in readership is so great. (Shrug) ... for what it's worth, anyway. :)
April 9, 201016 yr Moderator Hello!I've been following this thread for the last couple of days, and wanted to comment...IMHO I think there's a lot of people who are interested in getting into FS but aren't quite sure what sim to use, so they come into the forums to read the comments about each. It can be said that a lot of folks who decide to use FSX probably have purchased a new computer recently, and wanted to go with the most recent version. From reading the forums it's safe to say that FSX requires a lot of tweaking and adjusting to run properly. Add on Developers realized this; that's why you're starting to see more and more add on's now because the hardware technology has finally caught up to maximize the potential of FSX.On the other hand, that's why FS9 has such a loyal following. There are so many add on's and aircraft that have been developed for FS9 through the years that many simmers don't want to spend the time, money & effort all over again. Also, there are a lot of new simmers who don't have the computer capability to get FSX to run properly. The forums here (and on other sites) have such a wealth of information on FS9 that a new simmer can find out something about the program pretty easily. As more & more people make the switch to FSX that stockpile of information will steadily increase. The bottom line is this: Regardless of what sim you're using, the important thing is to get as much enjoyment using the environment as you can, and to have an avenue to share your enjoyment with others (like this forum and the other sites). This is just my 2
