Wrong airport code

Featured Replies

I'm doing some bush flying in Alaska in my MAAM DC-3 and landed in Eagle, AK. The problem is that in FS9 the airport code is listed as PAEA when in reality it is coded PAEG. Is there a way to correct the coding in FS9? I'm using UT for Canada/Alaska but that shouldn't affect anything.I checked Airnav and Flightaware and the correct code is PAEG.Thanks for any help here.Jim D.

Trying to fix a bad ICAO is a problem. Normally I would say just leave well enough alone. If you had to you could load the PAEA in ADE9, and save it, then delete everything and compile that. Then Load the airport you had saved and change the ICAO to PAEG and compile that as well, so you have tow bgl files. They both show up in the go to airport, but at least the one you want is there. In this case, though it seems like PAEA is the only airport in the default file AP910080.BGL, so you could probably get away with replacing the default file with a modified one and have no ill effects.I tried it and what I did was to open airport from bgl in ADE9, using the AP910080.BGL file. I changed the ICAO in the airport properties to PAEG and compiled it to a temp directory. ADE9 always creates a "DeleteAirport" element (under the assumption you are replacing a default airport). I don't think having that creates a problem, but to be safe I opened up the xml file (the ADE9 options has a check mark to create this) and removed the DeleteAirport element in a text editor. I then drag and dropped my mod xml file onto the bglcomp in the ADE9 folder and it created another bgl using my mod xml. I dropped this file into the fs9 scenery\NAMW\scenery folder, backed up the default AP910080.BGL to AP910080.B, and renamed my new bgl to AP910080.BGL.I started FS9 and selected PAEG in the airport menu and it seems to be OK. Again, I would not make a habit of hacking the default files, just this one has only a single uncomplex airport so I feel fairly safe about trying it. If there's problems just restore the default one.scott s..

Thanks for the help Scott. It doesn't sound too difficult to do, so I may give it a try.Jim D.

You can do it with two AFD files, creating both from the original data:1. With all features, runways, radio channels etc. removed2. With the ICAO changed.Don't forget to adjust all AI traffic flight plans to the new ICAO.This will work fine but will not totally eliminate the old code in that you will still see it in your airport list although no gates or runways will be shown for it there.
