FS Genesis Airport Terain

The FSG ATAP stuff is a major break through, not in technology. I applauud Justin for his dedication to commit to leveling mot airports in the USA. After the first 1000 it must become drudgery. I hope he has sub-contracted some of the work.Suggestion, put the each pack in a separate scenery folder (manual install). That way you can easily switch to before and after. Should not prevent further fiddling using a program such as ADE.

I agree that Justin does great work.

Hi Dick,Yes, that's the method. Each ATAP has it's own folder under Addon scenery, so it simply needs to be layered above any addon terrain mesh you may have installed. Each airport has it's own little customized terrain mesh file, compiled at LOD13, so will also work with FSDreamscapes 4.7m products, as well as any terrain mesh from any third-party vendor. There's a free sample covering Rhode Island available at http://www.fsgenesis.comJT\FSG

Also, I encourage everyone to report any airport plateau they encounter anywhere in the world. I'll be working diligently in Alaska first, but the order of subsequent projects will pretty much be determined by which areas have the most reports. There is a new reporting system in the FSG Forums to make it easy to submit reports. The more reports that are submitted, the quicker I can get these things out if I don't have to spend a significant amount of time sniffing them out, and can just get them fixed. So, everyone, submit those reports!JT\FSG

Justin... is this for those who don't have FSG V.2 for the US? Reason I ask is that I have your USA complete coverage, I think at V.2, and my default Westerly State airport is flat not raised as per your Rhode Island demo on your site. I am assuming this is because you introduced flattened airports in V.2 , quote " When highly-accurate high-resolution terrain mesh is applied, a plateau effect often results. This effect has been addressed in FSG for FSX V2 " Would I be correct therefore that ATAP would benefit me only for the areas in which I also run FSDreamscapes 4.7 mesh, e.g North & South California where the flattening done by you was based on 10m mesh. An example being that with your V.2 in Palm Springs the airport is flat, but when I add FSDreamscapes 4.7mesh Palm Springs runway is sitting between 2 gorges !Thanks & regards

Hello,Well, the fact is that only international, regional, and most county airports were covered in the current US V2, leaving many cow-pasture and out-of-the-way airfields/strips with plateaus. And the method used in that version is more or less just an expedient quick-fix (though it still took the better part of six weeks to edit and compile), simply cutting holes in the source data in a somewhat automated manner so the default terrain would show through--an adequate solution for the interim, but not as good as the ATAP solution, which involves actual custom terrain editing and much more attention to detail. So, to answer your question, yes you could still benefit from the new ATAPs, since the remaining plateaus will be addressed, and the V2 airports that don't appear to have plateaus now as a result of the former expedient fix will be much-improved.And yes, the ATAPs, being compiled at 4.7m in the US, will fix the plateaus resulting from FSDreamscapes products, as well as those resulting from FSGlobal, or any other third-party terrain mesh that may exist.JT\FSG
