Trivia while waiting for the NGX

Featured Replies

OK, while waiting for the NGX or at least some screen shots I invite everyone to this little trivia session. Might indeed be tricky for someone not living in XXX but let's give it a try anyway. Where were these pictures taken? Rwy 14 was used for takeoff.BestPhil

Lol, ill think we will need more info then the runway. Most (if not everyone) of us haven't been to a airport that can handle 737s.. Maybe not a country or state you could tell us.

Sylt Airport (IATA: GWT, ICAO: EDXW)? That or EDDK.Ken Smith

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

It is Sylt Airport (EDXW).

Bingo. All I did was go to wikipedia and search for every runway in Germany with a runway 14. Sylt is the only airport in the country with a runway 14.. EDDK came close, but it has 14L/14R. :(

Very smart, WestAir. Indeed, it is Sylt/EDXW. Pic4 shows the quite distinct Rantum Becken which I thought only someone who knows the Island can recognize. Anyway, congrats. And again, very clever approach. Would not have expected that there is only one Rwy14 in Germany. Besides the fact that you must have guessed it is Germany. Possibly from my profile settings (EDDM)? Anyway, just for you. Where is this then :( . Hint: Rwy34 in that case. And no, it is not Germany :-)I owe you a beer if you find that one too. Phil

That's Hurghada International Airport (HEGN), Condor B757.

Matthew, I am speechless. Tell me the trick this time, pls. I know you also chimed in above and confirmed EDXW but this was really impossible. Well, for me. Unless you sat in the same flight last Saturday. Or you know my wife and she told you :( Anyway, where shall I send the beer?Phil (still impressed)

Did I mention that even the carrier and equipment is right? Did the blue engine did the trick here?Phil

The CRJ I thought was Lufthansa because of the white wings, never even looked at your location. Now, the second one I knew you were from Germany, I knew it was a B757 and it just had to be a Condor aircraft with the blue nacelle. Just a matter of looking at where they send the B757. It must be a 757-330 owning to the fact that that is all they operate B757-wise.

As said before I am amazed that you can tell an aircraft from just seeing a wing tip or portion of the nacelle. I am quite much into aviation and thus flightsimming since FSX4 but all I once could do many years ago is tell apart a B727 from a B737 if looking at them from below :( Will see, guess I have some more 'after t/o' pics on my laptop, thought they would be too difficult but seems I am wrong. May post them within the next 2 hours here just out of curiosity what you guys are able to do with it. :( Phil

Beofre scrolling down to see if anyone had actually guessed correctly so far, I also realised by picture 4 that it was Sylt... 15/33 was redesignated 14/32... though I wasn't ware that only one 14 (as opposed to 14R/14L) exists here in Germany...The 4th picture was the give away... those combine with the other 3 made EDXW the only choice for me...Pretty hot spotting on the second set there Matthew...Andrew
