Help with new HD!

Hi,I've just replaced my old HD (250Gb) with a new one from Western Digital. This new HD has 1Tb so it will solve the free space issues I was having with the old one.My old HD was divided in two partitions. C: and D:My OS (XP), programs, documents, etc. go on C: and my games, including FS9, on D:I backed up both partitions with Acronis True Image as usual, removed the old HD and installed the new one. I check the BIOS for the new disk and all data was correct, including size.I booted my PC using the Acronis True Image Recovery CD and chose the option "add a new disk". Identified the new HD in the list and created two partitions. One with around 300Gb (C:) and another with around 700Gb (D:).I restored both backups, first C: and then D:.After that my PC booted as usual and I went to check if everything was OK. I have no problems with partition C:. It

Right click my computer and go to manage then to disc management. Right click your D drive, go to extend volume and accept, it should take your unallocated space and put it back in to that hard drive. Should fix the problem. Answer came from a quick search using Google, bro. Learn it, use it, love it.

Thank you for your input, Justin. You noticed I'm running Windows XP, right?I'm asking because when I right click the D: drive I don't have the option to extend volume...Maybe you assumed I am running Windows Vista or Windows 7?Thank you anyway.Regards,

I think I was able so solve the problem by using the "diskpart.exe" command line.I thought I would have to use a 3rd party program but this will do and everything seems OK.

You can't extend a volume in XP. Acronis Disk Director will let you extend a volume though.

Acronis restores the size of your backup image as that to the new partition. Use any disk partitioning utility to extend that partition to full size. I use acronis in the office to restore images that are typically 7gig large taken from a 40gig drive to a new 160gig drive. I end up seeing the original 40gig size when it should really be 160gig....exactly what happened to you....I choose to leave the 40gig and leave the rest of the space alone as my users do not need 160gig....but at home with FS of course we need all that space!

Hoping For CAVU --- Chris
