FMC APP ALT

Featured Replies

if im on A/P with FMC speed & PROF active & im descending on a STAR with waypoint altitudes set & i set the FCP ALT window to 0000 will my md11 descend correctly following the FMC?

meaning if my md11 is at 16000 passing waypoint X & the next waypoint, waypoint Y, has a alt set on the legs page as 290/14000, will my a/c descend automatically AFTER waypoint X so it is AT 14000 when it gets to waypoint Y?& sorry for the double post

Yes as long as you have 14000ft or lower dialled in and the waypoint is 'AT' or 'AT/Below' 99% sure thats correct but I probably shouldn't be replying to posts this early in the morning so perhaps someone else more awake can confirm for you.Regards

Note only, that your last dial in altitude should be according to the FAF altitude, so don

I think what's being asked though would still work, although I can't remember trying it with the MD-11 I do remember while I learned the 744 that I would just set my Alt to 0 once I hit my cruise alt. I never had any issues doing it, I would suggest trying it since it would produce a faster answer :(I would try it but don't have it installed at the moment.

Yes, setting the FCP alt to zero will give the FMS authority to follow the calculated profile (with possible added constraints) down to sea level.IIRC it will stop at 100ft though

Yea it worked & i could see that it did because on the EFIS when you set the FCP ALT to a ALT HIGHER than your CRZ ALT, & press PROF, the magenta PROF to watever ALT will appear above ALT tape.

No. The FMC will not gareentee that you pass X at 16000 and Y at 14000. It will make best effort but the plan has to be reasonable to start with. Put X and Y too close together and the FMC will complain and leave it to the pilot to sort. If X is AT/BELOW 290/-16000 and Y is AT /14000 then it would be reasonable for the FMC to start the descent before X to try and met the restriction at Y. If Y was /+14000, then the FMC might not descend at all depending on what comes next.
