April 20, 201016 yr I have track IR 4 with the reflector clip. My computer is in my basement and way behind it, is a glass sliding door leading to the backyard. When I used track IR during the day, it gets confused with the light coming in through the backyard glass door and becomes irratic. at night, it works great. I close the shades (which are verticals), but there is still enogh light coming in to scew things up. Im about to just move my whole setup to a guest bedroom which has a lot less light issues. Im sure this will correct the problem, but I was wondering if the track clip pro would correct this issue without me having to move everything around in the house.Anyone have any experience with this?Rob
April 20, 201016 yr The problem is not with the reflector clip or the track clip pro, because they do nothing else than reflect the infrared light back. The problem is with the light source. That is what TrackIR sees - you can check it in the program settings. I have "only" the TrackIR 3, and when I open the program where I check where it sees the hat, I also see the point of the light source in the background, and that is what messes it up. I believe every version of TIR will have this problem, simply due to the way it works - IR detection, and daylight has the whole spectrum of light, including the IR spectrum.
April 20, 201016 yr This used to be a nuisance for me as well with two large bay windows back in the coach section. :( Have you thought of vertical blinds, or heavier draperies?Make sure you have the latest TrackIR v5.0.030 (build 6225).Yes the track clip pro will improve your situation. The difference between the TrackClip Pro and TrackClip is like active LED light vs. passive reflection. Still the receiver will none-the-less sense the light source from the glass door no matter what. First, you have to minimize the "Noisy" light. Next, adjust the Light Filter threshold in the Advanced Camera settings to see if that helps. Then look at getting the TrackClip Pro.
April 20, 201016 yr Don't bother, I have TrackIR5 with trackclip pro and I have the same problem. All I have to do is close the blinds and it works fine. It kind of sucks but I'm addicted to TIR. April 20, 201016 yr A simple solution, and I've used it in the past, is to just hang up a temp. blaket or something similar over that door.Besides that, I have the clip as well, and sometimes get a problem when the light comes in just right. Adjust the filter settings while monitoring the screen that shows what TrackIR is picking up.By the way, as a personal opinion, avoid v.5 software. Nothing improved with my v4, way to complex then it needs to be, and uses about 3x the amount of resources. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |

Two possible benefits over CW would be brighter luminance of the LEDs, and second, a provision to embed a detectable signal that can be positively "locked" on.- Ed
April 21, 201016 yr Hey welcome Vince,With regards to this topic I often wondered whether using pulsed LED had ever been considered. Two possible benefits over CW would be brighter luminance of the LEDs, and second, a provision to embed a detectable signal that can be positively "locked" on.- EdIt is something that we use, with some of our other product lines, but the added circuit design, and circuit overhead might be a little expensive. If you tied it into the TCP, you would have to have the device act as an active device being detected on the PC, which then would require you to interface directly with the IR camera, thru the software, which then would have to tie the sequencing firing of the LEDs to the frame rate of the IR camera.
April 21, 201016 yr Author Well, I moved my computer desk/setup to the guest bedroom and its great now. I can play anytime of day without having the light come in an screw things up. My wife likes it better too, since my system is not out in the open. She thinks it was an eyesore. Im happy because I have more privacy and can turn up the volume a little bit more. Best of all my trackir works great now.Rob
