April 23, 201016 yr I've been reading plenty of forum posts about which graphics card is better and nvidia vs. ATA etc. and they don't always agree with each other. My question iswould a Nvidia 9800GT 1gb be a good graphics card for FSX?

April 24, 201016 yr Author Um... I don't really have an extra $500 dollars to spend on a computer nor do I want to.
April 24, 201016 yr Um... I don't really have an extra $500 dollars to spend on a computer nor do I want to.What are you computer specs? (CPU, RAM and current video card). FSX is CPU bound so depending on your specs it may not be worth while to try and upgrade your GPU.
April 24, 201016 yr FSX, especially with the bufferpools tweak, needs a balanced hardware set. For example, a GTX 480 would be a waste with a low end dual core processor, a 32-bit OS, and slow memory. With a GTX 480, an overclocked i7, 64 bit OS, and 6GB+ of the lowest latency memory you can afford is the way to go in my opinion. If you have an older quad core and only use FSX, then I would recommend a GTX 275/285. If you have play other games as well, look into an ATI 5xxx series. Shane Gavin
April 24, 201016 yr Author I have a really bad computer for fsx now and I have been looking at getting a new computer. I found one at ibuypower.com that has an intel core i7 860 @2.66 (which has an option to be overclocked which i might do). 4gb ram, Nvidia 9800gt 1gb, 320GB hard drive, 700watt PSU, and a 17inch monitor for around 1,000 to 1,100 dollars and I don't want to spend a whole lot more than this. This computer would be built specifically for FSX because I use an xbox 360 for other gaming.

If this system is being built specifically for FSX you will be sorely disappointed with the performance of the 9800GT. At a minimum you should upgrade to a GTX 260 which will add about $100 dollars to your system. Even better if you can afford it would be to upgrade to a GTX 275/285 as audiohavoc previously stated.Regards,Bob
April 24, 201016 yr Author Okay, thanks. One more question. Does the size of the computer case matter? more specifically will this case be too small? April 30, 201016 yr you have to get powerful cpu, at least 4gb ram and a good nvdia vga for my opinion.core i7 or amd x4 6 or 9 series cpu will be fine, but you'd better to oc your cpu to over 3ghz. you will get much better fps.gtx 260 and higher nvidia cards are very good for fsx. i recommend you to avoid ati (i bought a 4870 but i am very disappointed for fsx performance, specially aa and af)http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=280769 Cenk Demir Besiktas JK 1903
April 30, 201016 yr I you want to get maximum performance from FSX by using the [bUFFERPOOLS] UsePools=0 tweak, than the GTX 470 is the best bang for buck, especially considering that it is cheaper than the EVGA GTX 285 ($420). I just bought my EVGA GTX 470 from Fry's for $370. The PNY version is $350. Shane Gavin
