mscomctl.ocx Error

Featured Replies

Hi there,I had RC4.3 up and running on a client (Windows 7) PC but had to make some changes on the server (also Windows 7) and re-register both FSUIPC 4 and Wide FS.FSUIPC is running and connecting to client fine again but when I try to run RC4 I get the message "component 'mscomctl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid."I have searched for this file on the computer and it is there on C:\Windows\System32 but is a locked file. I don't know whether this file is a Windows 7 file or purely related to RC4.Is there anything I can do to fix this or should I re-install RC4 (or worse Windows 7)?Regards,Ken

Hi Ken,There's a locked topic above that advises how to register a DLL. That should get you running.

Hi there,Followed instructions as you suggested but with no success (once with lower case, and then with upper case as this is how it is shown in Windows Explorer).Message comes up "Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found"I know the path is correct. Tried to include screenshots but failed - never done it before. Saved them as JPEG'S but can't copy and paste them. Sorry. Thanks for your help so far, and anything further would be appreciated.Regards,Ken

Ken,When in trouble I always google the problem and if you look at the first reply here you will see what to do. Fortunately no reinstalltion of anything is required. Just a file copy and then you can register it.This fix applies to the 64-bit version. Hopefully that's the one you have.

Hello again,I am using Windows7 32bit because it is a 4-5 years old and won't support 64 bit (the server where FSX resides is 64 bit).I only have one account which is myself as administrator, however have restarted in safe mode with CMD to ensure it is started in administrator mode but still get the same message that I posted yesterday. The only commands I have typed are the ones you suggested in your previous reply.Sorry to take up your time, I hope you can understand it is frustrating to have had this working and now it isn't.If anybody else is watching, how do I get JPEG screenshot files into replies? Thanks for your prompt responses JDRegards,Ken

the administrator account and administrator group do not have administrative rights. you have to run as admin.follow the directions exactly, if the command window doesn't say "administrator command prompt" that is the issue.jd

can you do a screen shot of the command window, with the command you typed, and send it to me?you don't have to start in safe mode, as a matter of fact, it probably won't work.boot up normally, log on normally, click start, type cmd in the search box, press ctrl-shift-enter, what does the title bar of the command window say?

Hi,Hopefully I have cracked how to send screenshots and you should see both the CMD window and the error message below (probably in reverse order)Regards,Ken

Ken,Do you have a folder called C:\windows\sysWOW64? As you have the 32-bit version of W7 I suppose it might be named sysWOW32.Trying to register a OCX in the System32 folder will not work due to W7 protection. The file has to be copied to the sysWOW32/64 folder for the registration to work. That was mentioned in the link I provided a few days ago.

32 bit systems go in the \system32 directorythere is no syswow32 directoryis there a file called mscomctl.ocx in the c:\windows\system32 directory? can't register it, if it isn't there.

I stand corrected but without access to W7 I was taking educated guesses.

:( When I change to an i7. Until then I don't need it.If Ken navigates to the c:\ prompt and types DIR mscomctl.*/s it should clear things up. Of course that was going to be the next thing you suggested. :(
